  • So, there's *still* some reason to hold out hope.

For the uninitiated, the Sun Belt, CUSA and MAC have a political advantage over the MWC and C-TBN conferences, which is that they hold the majority vote and could choose to eliminate any financial benefit to the school gaining the BCS berth, or to its conference... just distributing the estimated $86 million equally.

By doing so, of course, that would largely negate the ability of the MWC and C-TBN schools to create an ever-widening gulf between their haves and our have-nots.

Of course, that is, unless MWC and C-TBN were willing to cut a deal, wherein they would expand to 16 schools each, and thus, with 32 votes, obtain the political advantage after all.

That assumes that the democratic vote would be based on individual schools. I leave open the possibility that the vote will be one vote to a conference, but even in that case, the remaining CUSA schools with a vote could simply dissolve their conference before exiting, which still would provide to MWC and C-TBN some political muscle to get what they prefer.

But there *is* a deadline... we need this put all of this to bed before July 1, before the newbies officially arrive and get a vote.

  • Sturt try not to deflect this question.  Why do you feel Marshall University or CUSA deserve a single dime if Boise St wins a BCS/Playoff game?

The school goes to the bowl and how that money is distributed is between that school and it's conference.  Be careful what you wish for.  As soon as something like you're suggesting comes about, will be the same time that one of our guys goes to the bowl three years in a row.

  • I must not be communicating this very well.

I'm on that side, actually. I'd prefer a system where Boise and their conference take home most of the kitty.

But at the moment we stand to end up eventually in one of the conferences least positioned to benefit.

To ascend to one of the conferences most likely to benefit... which is our foremost goal... we need to join with our current peers, lock arms, and threaten to establish a flat, equal distribution of all BCS revenue, so that the MWC and CTBN schools are forced to either allow that to happen (not likely, imo) or to expand sufficiently to gain the 32 schools that would be necessary for the vote to go their way.

So, we're a swing vote here... and we need to take advantage of it.

    Make more sense?

  • And sturt, that's where you are completely wrong. Out of all the schools in CTBA only Cincinnati has had an undefeated regular season and they didn't have to play a championship game. Houston almost did it, but now they have a harder row. A CTBA team will have to able to run the table, doubt it happens anytime soon. Boise was good at going undefeated in the WAC, different story in the MWC. Sunbelt teams can't make it through an OCC schedule without losing. The MAC and nCUSA are best positioned.

Oh, and you keep talking about a guaranteed spot being something new, that's not true. Non big 6 have had a spot carved out for years. That's why so many have made it.

  • banker, you know, if you began reading my threads without that gigantic chip on your shoulder, you might not end up spending so much time thinking you're correcting me on something that actually needs no correction... e.g., there's no misunderstanding here, we know that the Go5 slot was not GUARANTEED from year to year as it is now... before, there were conditions that had to be met... from now on, one Go5 school will ALWAYS be in one of the BCS bowls.

But none of that is even the point of this thread. I guess you just got too excitable.
