HOUSTON - Vanessa Jules won the high jump on Sunday to help the Marshall track and field team to a best-ever fifth place finish at the Conference USA Track and Field Championships at Rice University-Holloway Field.

“It was an unbelievable performance by my team and my coaching staff this weekend,” said head coach Jeff Small. “I have never been prouder of a team or staff in my career.”

The Thundering Herd’s place and point total of 63 easily surpasses its previous C-USA finish of 11th and scoring 35 more points than it ever had before (28).

Jules, who placed first in the heptathlon on Friday, won the title with a jump of 1.78 meters (5 feet-10 inches). The senior also placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a school-record time of 13.67. Jules won the Performance of the Meet, given to the student-athlete with the best overall performance.
