  • Yeah we'll miss those powerhouse Tulane, Houston, SMU, and Memphis FB programs.

We might. Those teams are responsible for 38% of our conference wins over the last 3 years.

  • Let's say we could wave a magic wand and become a member of the Big 12 conference.  Sure, the revenue would be nice, but there would only be a couple of teams we could beat on a regular basis.  We could concievably be a part of the new Big East...but it's really hard to see how they are better top to bottom on a ten year average and we would lose our capacity to take props, which IMO will be critical to our future success.  We could rejoin the MAC, but what point would that serve?  Whether you like where we're at at this time or not, it's probably the best place for us and winning will take care of everything. A one loss Kent team who lost to KEN-FRICKEN-TUCKY was one win away from a BCS berth and I feel confident we can do it too.

That said, it's more than 90 days til kick off and we have to talk about something, so there you go.

  • jstherd, you say they wil get on a roll this year. Well, duh!!!! Don't you think it is about time after calling for it for 8 years? And now they have a schedule that is about as weak as you can get. 10-2 should be expected and nothing less than 9-3 should be tolerated. But i'm sure 7-5 will have everyone saying...."were goin' bowlin' baby". Nothing excites me in ftb except a top 25 ranking and a good bowl. If some of you think it's great to beat a weak conference and get to 7-5 or even 6-6 just to get into a bowl that HALF of all teams makes....then whoppeee. I just don't see where going 6-6 going to a bowl means squat. You do realize 6-6 means you lost as many as you won, right?      At least 9-3 and recieving votes or ho-hum for me because ftb is rigged and there is nothing to showcase yourself unless you hit the tp 25 IMO. At least in basketball there is always that chance for every school out there. You can win big during the season or you can just win your conference and then you're destiny is in YOUR hands. Nothing like March Madness IMO. JMO!!!!

I got a feeling we have better shot at going to a BCS/Major bowl than we do the NCAA tourney. Golly its been since 1987. ugh!

What do you consider a GOOD Bowl? Being in C-USA the best we can do is the Liberty unless we are the top ranked non-BCS team and go to a MAJOR bowl.

  • Only the Liberty Bowl or a BCS bowl like Boise St has done. These 6-6 Pizza Bowl type stuff is nothing to get excited about. These are just made up type bowls so HALF of all teams can say they "won a trophy". It means absolutely NOTHING.

  • You may be right SVHERD. BUT....in basketball evryone has the CHANCE. Nobody can hold you back except for yourself. That is my point. In basketball everyone has a shot at winning a National Championship. Not so in football. Yep, if you have a GREAT year in ftball you can get to a BSC type bowl game but not a NC (ain't gonna happen). I just find it hard to get excited playing FIU, Troy or C Michigan in a Pizza Bowl. It just never has much of a chance of ever being bigtime. Get in the top 25 is the only thing that will move this program fowrard. You not only need to get there but stay there MOST of the time. Otherwise we are just a small time program that the rest of the nation could care less about.

    — High point: A 38-31 win over Marshall was UAB's lone victory against an FBS team with a winning record. Scratch that: UAB's lone win over an FBS opponent with a win, period. The Blazers' other victories came against Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.

    Ugly....
Yes and if you were there it was just as bad as watching Snyders pre- scripted double reverse that should never have been ran due to a botched kick off return starting at the 2 that resulted in a saftey for UAB.

Should have win this game going away, instead we gave it away.  I'm hoping the team and Holliday both gel into winners this season. It took Beemer 5 years at VT maybe Holliday gets it in 4?

Dont worry, we replaced Houston with UTSA, Memphis with UNCC, SMU with nort texas, and Tulane with Old Dominion. We should be pretty set with wins on those, moreeo than we were

  • jstherd why are you calling me out? I am positive about Marshall basketball since Kane left. It's the majority that is bashing and trashing the basketball program now. And you are calling me negative?

Nobody a fence sitter here just people who want to see the team they love bring back the pride and tradition to the Herd.  Time for the teams to produce. 8 years of lousy football is enough.

  • College football countdown | No. 82: Southern Mississippi

    Quote
No team in college football history has suffered a more precipitous change in fate, and don't say Ball State, because 2008 Ball State was not as good as 2011 Southern Mississippi, and 2009 Ball State was not nearly as bad as 2012 Southern Mississippi. In this case, the Golden Eagles are in class all by themselves.

They were also 36% of the other 11 teams in our conference during that period so that doesn't really mean anything...

Yeah it does mean something. If we replaced the loss of Tulane, Houston, SMU, and Memphis FB programs with the loss of ECU, UCF, Tulsa, and S. Miss, how would that percentage change.

  • College football countdown | No. 79: Middle Tennessee State

    Quote
What team shows up in 2013? Perhaps the eight-win squad of 2012, or the 10-win team of 2009, or the bowl team of 2010. Or will it be the 10-loss team of 2011, as disappointing a non-automatically qualifying group in the country?

The Blue Raiders are entering a new era as a member of Conference USA, a stronger league than the Sun Belt and one likely unkind to teams that fail to stick to the script. In MTSU's case, this would mean more of 49-26 over Georgia Tech and 34-29 against Western Kentucky, less of 45-0 to Arkansas

The Blue Raiders, along with ECU, are MU's main challengers in the East Division. (BTW, I have us losing to them on the road.)
