  • Hey so I just got a job down there and will be moving from Columbus... My question for everyone is what kind of golf is down there relatively close? Any decently priced?

Also I'm curious about any places to work out outside of the Y that's good?

  • Good to see folks moving to Huntington. Check out Crossfit Thunder (www.crossfitthunder.com or www.facebook.com/crossfitthunder). Lots of good folks there.

As for golf, someone else will have to answer that one.

  • I haven't played golf in years, but when I did, SugarWood (off Rt. 152, just past Lavalette) and Riviera Country Club (at Cox Landing, off of Rt. 2) were nice courses.

  • Sugarwood is the nicest around here. Twin Silos (Lavalette) is still there, but I'm not a big fan of that course. You have Riviera in Lesage which is still nice and Esquire in Barboursville which is ok. If you want some good golf, head over to Grayson and play Hidden Cove.

  • Thanks guys for the help. I'm excited to get back where all my families at and yet there's just so much I don't know about certain parts of the area. Golf has been just something I've been getting into and want to improve.

  • Also if you live in Huntington you can join the bellefonte country club just outside of Ashland for a pretty fair price. Someone I work with joined for a great deal and the catch was you had to live further that 20-30 miles from the country club.

  • I haven't been in the tri-State in 15 years. Guyan is the only really nice place to be a member. There are several nice places to play golf, but Guyan is the only really nice first class place for everything.

If you care about just playing a lot of golf, Sugarwood, Twin Silos, Esquire, Riviera, etc are all nice to join and be a member. If you're into networking and spending a ton of money, then Guyan is for you.

Yeah, one across the river, then one at Twin Silos,  one in Hurricane on Rt 60, but that's about it really.

I used to play that course almost everyday. Well, it was the only one that I could afford to play everyday.

    Exactly.

    Hidden Cove in Grayson
Shawnee - Just outside of Portsmouth
    Sugarwood
    Riviera
    Esquire
    Twin Silos
Thats how I would rank them in that order. jmo.

In NO WAY is Shawnee better than Sugarwood, save price.  Agree with the rankings, except that Shawnee would be down below Silos.
