HUNTINGTON -- East Tennessee State men's basketball coach Murry Bartow said he didn't feel good about playing man-to-man defense against the Marshall Thundering Herd.

So, the Buccaneers used a zone defense Saturday to slow down some of Marshall's athletes and picked up an 88-78 victory at home in Johnson City, Tenn.

ETSU (3-5) stayed in the zone for the entire game.

When Marshall went inside the Herd either scored or was fouled, forward Ryan Taylor said.

  • Interesting ETSU stayed in a zone.  Just read where UAB used a zone to beat #16 North Carolina and Charlotte also beat #14 Michigan this weekend.  Looks to be a challenging basketball league this year.
