  • People on this board for the most part are a tough crowd, as stated earlier he took a dumpster fire and in his tenure has built an excellent program. On the other hand some of these same people can't praise Dantoni, who has never coached a college game, and until today never recruited a player, enough. Let me say something, I observed both at the coaches tour, and I like Dan, but Doc Holiday is pure class and it is not what you say, but have you produced something. Doc has.

  • Maybe not a popular sentiment around here, but I would not take Bobby over Doc at this point.  The fact that Doc arrived to a train wreck is huge.  Even if you get all the talent, and he clearly does, getting rid of the emotional baggage of being a loser is very, very, very hard.  Doc's done that.  Can he go undefeated?  We shall see.  I'm not predicting it.  But to take the 2009 team and, in four years, for that discussion to be on EVERYONE's mind, is a monumental accomplishment.  13-1 would be out of this world and should probably earn Doc an NCAA Coach of the Year award.  14-0 would confirm him as the greatest coach in Herd history...by miles.

Context counts...and the context is that in August, 2010, Marshall Football was like a woman's period.  Painful for the victim, but even harder to watch.

  • Because it was a recurring theme, some might blame the coach, but we were three special team TD's (OU kickoff fumble, Va Tech and MTSU blocked punts) from being undefeated, probably ranked and having Rice at home for the championship last year.

IMO, this had nothing to do with coaching.   There was no call being made, no clock management, etc. just simple mistakes by the players.  In the years I played, none of my fumbles or interceptions were a coach's fault.

When Doc was hired he had never been a head coach and that worked out pretty good.

Surely you haven't forgot about the winning-est team in the 90's as well as national championships, but Doc is a great recruiter.

"I have heard people talk about the healing process - that sounds good - or closure," Dawson told the Los Angeles Times. "I don't know what closure is, but that area of my life will never be closed. But I feel alive again. I feel I can smile again."

  • I love what Doc has done, particularly with recruiting, talent, depth and discipline.  I just put it in context, fact of the matter is the 2009 team underachieved but was a bowl winning team.  Fact is, in and out of conference schedule is MUCH easier than it was in Snyder years or early doc years.  Lastly, as good as last yeAr was, we lost a few we shouldn't have.  The late Maryland and ECU wins have many fans forgetting OU, MTSU and the giant egg laid at Rice

  • Shaw and Bison, you both make very good points.  But you cannot discount the fact that Bobby was handed a championship team of a VERY high caliber.  Yes, 2009 was better than other Snyder teams, but top to bottom, there were bad...and left the cupboard bare.

Bob Pruett will never be equaled by Doc because of 1 undefeated season.  When Doc wins 5 conference titles, 2 undefeated seasons, and 5 straight bowl wins, we will talk. That is that. Pruett was the best game and situational coach we will ever have. Period. He made adjustments anf played the talent on the field to their maximum potential. We should have beaten OSU even with Pruett. He out coached tressel, just came up short. And damn nugent....

anyway, Not taking away from Doc by being objective in what he has accomplished so far. I am a fan of Doc, he has done a great job overall.

Doc has done great at recruiting, discipline and developing these kids off the field, building a complete team, and put us back over 10 wins and has beaten 2 BCS opponents in louisville and maryland. Should have beaten va tech as well. And he has built an amazing staff, heater is a huge get.

What he does poorly, in game adjustments and taking control when needed (not switching our defense up after mtsu rammed it down our throats. We stayed in nickel, never switched to a 4-4 until it was too late as one example), and whatever he is doing, our road preparation is bad, resulting in a dismal record.

If Doc can utilize the talent and come up with a game plan and win on the road, I have 0 complaints. One can like a guy and respect what hr has done while still recognizing areas of opportunity.

  • I can point out good and bad about Doc and Pruett.  One thing we can say, pruett left program worse than he found it while it looks like Doc will do the opposite
