  • Hate having these high expectations going into the 2014 season?

I think we should have a good year but I feel like wanting perfection might be expecting a little bit too much.

I love what Doc has done and almost all of the games we play we should be favored in (especially at home) but there are always those 1 or 2 games every year where we look bad or barely beat a team that we should dominate. Rice, FAU, Ohio come to mind.

Maybe I just like being an underdog, anyone else feel the same way?

  • No...the '99 team also had high expectations and lived up to them...without those expectations we get lumped with the other teams on our schedule...and we don't sell as many tickets and take in revenue, either...

  • I like the expectations as well. These expectations allow us to start with a ranking that will allow us to climb to the highest ranked G5 champion.

  • Our program used to have swagger and when they stepped on the field they thought they could beat anyone that was across from them on any given day. That attitude defined the football program until the Snyder years. Doc, staff and the former players that have come back around have helped re instill that with this team. I expect to win every game by double digits.

    GO HERD!

  • I think we can beat anyone as well. Hell I talk crap to Alabama fans saying they would get beat if they came to play us.

  • Legitimate question when I see us blowing 1-2 games per year on ultra-conservative offensive play calling, ultra-risky defensive play calls totally un-called for, and SMH personnel decisions.

But, all that can be corrected. We have the coaching knowledge to do it. Just like Phase I ( Snyder years ), Phase II can be cleaned up. N more "steps to the basement" as one poster put it.

Phase III will be after 13 / 14 wins and Doc is gone - massive buyout or no massive buyout.

Can / will we keep the athletes coming ?

  • We will lose a game or two if all the breaks go the other team's way and we are playing a bad game and turn the ball over. It's up to us to a great degree but also luck.  I think two of our losses last year were that scenario exactly. We also need to be diligent in game planning. There is a danger when you are just plain better than another team to just try to outmuscle them and take them lightly. That's how we almost beat WVU a few years back.

  • The Rice game in particular showed that we don't really have much road swagger yet...the only really well-played roadie was against an inept FIU, although in a way the Maryland game was like playing away in their back yard...we backed up and then finally put Tulsa away and got lucky at FAU...then played poorly against the rest (with the exception of the "D" vs. VPI) and got well- deserved "L's"...we absolutely MUST beat Miami and Akron or risk losing the bandwagon fans asgain...
