Katie Kramer missed walking at her college graduation last week, but for good reason: She was in Spain, making history as the youngest American woman to swim the Strait of Gibraltar.

Kramer, 21, a Naples High School and Marshall University graduate, is in elite company: Fewer than 600 people have completed the swim, which measures 9-12 miles, depending on course direction. Five times more people have climbed Mount Everest, said Kramer (who, by the way, will get her chance to walk at her second graduation when she earns her MBA in spring 2015).
