For Immediate ReleaseHeart of the Maya now availableNew adventure novel set on Marshall University campusWest Virginia adventure author Eric Douglas’ latest novel, Heart of the Maya, is now available. This book is the fifth in the Mike Scott adventure series. In this story, murder, kidnapping and the theft of an ancient Mayan statue, both 500 years ago and today, and diving in cenotes on the Mayan Riviera all come into play. Speaking at his alma mater, Mike Scott learns that the death of a friend 25 years before might not have been an accident. That discovery, and the revelation of who was behind the murder, sends Mike on a hunt to find a missing Mayan statue that contains the “heart of the Maya” before a lunatic drug dealer with delusions of grandeur kills a friend and corrupts the Mayan people. “I’ve always said Mike Scott was from West Virginia, but this is the first chance I’ve had to bring him home. As an international news photographer, Mike is always traveling,” Douglas said. “This time he has come home to speak at Marshall University, where he graduated from the School of Journalism. He quickly gets caught up in unraveling the murder of a classmate, and then the story takes a turn and he chases off to the Mayan Riviera to find a missing statue that connects the Adena people to the Mayans.”The story is set on campus in the present with flashbacks to 1989 when Mike Scott was a student, and 1000 years ago. The story takes Mike Scott to Playa del Carmen in the heart of the Mayan Riviera where they explore Mexican cenotes. Douglas is a 1989 graduate of Marshall University. He has authored four other novels in the Mike Scott series: Cayman Cowboys, Flooding Hollywood, Guardians’ Keep and Wreck of the Huron. He is a regular columnist for Scuba Diving Magazine, writing the “Lessons for Life” and “Ask an Expert” columns. Douglas also writes non-fiction, including Keep on, Keepin’ on (with Jean Hanna Davis), Common Valor and Scuba Diving Safety (with Dan Orr).
