  • The way Pruett said those words in the press conference was enough to convince me... I agree with MAKO... he's sincere when he suggests that he planned it all out.

Again, though, now the question becomes how Marcum proceeds. I sure hope he doesn't wait to give Kueck a year to audition first... I mean, I'm glad Pruett feels good about him, but who's he kidding?... and besides, it wouldn't be fair to Kueck nor our potential recruits to have that held over him through the season.

  • If this was so thought out, where are the roasts?  the parties?  the ticker tape parades?  Is this how our university treats arguably its greatest football coach of all time?  Byron doesn't have a broken leg, sturt.

  • If your Pruett and you've been thinking about this, and you have a close comrade you want to get the job there is no better time to resign than going into spring practice with a clean slate...
What do you call a place where the coaches are drunks, the players pistol whip local citizens and the fans mug and rob expecting mothers ? You call it - THE FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IN THE STATE OF WV!!! Ollie Luck AD

  • A lot of you must think Pruett just lied to every one of us in his press conference.  I don't.  Indeed, I heard him on the radio last night and Vingleberry said something to the effect of most Herd fans would have preferred you to have announced it before the season so they could have dinners, etc. in your honor.  Pruett's comment was something to the effect that, while that might be what some people would want, he has no desire for that.  What he does have a desire for is spending time with his family.

I don't think he lied.  I think he just told us what he wanted us to hear.  What he didn't want us to hear, is WHY he decided that this was the time for him to go.  You, of all people MAKO, ought to be able to read something into this.  Isn't that what all you liberals do?  Make mountains out of molehills?  :o

Blade, I went back and forth, not once, but twice yesterday. Ask me again tomorrow... but right now, I'm wondering if there isn't a third option here, somewhere between the two.

That is, maybe both assumptions are correct.

It's apparent from Reynolds comments -- and he has no motive to mislead -- that, yes, he's been considering this pretty strongly even dating back to early last season... and Reynolds indicates that he knew something was up last week... now here's where I'm only guessing, but after the signing day festivities calmed down, I dare say Bobby began thinking about all of this in earnest, and finally said something among friends which included Reynolds... but it appears that Pruett probably gave himself a week to say to himself, "that's my final answer, Regis,"... and sometime on Monday he did that.

Having said all that, there's still a curious piece to the puzzle even here... why didn't Kueck know something earlier... even a day earlier would have made it all seem more on the up-and-up... but, two hours before the press conference???... all I can imagine is that maybe Kueck did know something earlier, but just hadn't officially gotten the ask until then... and thus he didn't want the other coaches -- who now were going to be answerable to him -- to think he had lobbied for the job, and especially with him leapfrogging the associate head coach.

One thing I think we can know, though... Mark Gale isn't a happy camper this morning. And for that matter, this isn't what the rest of the coaching staff "signed up for"... I'm sure they mostly view Kueck as an equal, not someone to answer to, and I dare say there are some sitting at their computers as I write this -- preparing resume's to put in the mail.

  • if he was getting what he wanted for the program.

    he'd still be here.

    that's the point.

i don't think it was thought out....maybe thought about.  i think it was the last straw and he left.

however, it doesn't matter, planned or not, the point is he is leaving because he doesn't feel the University is giving enough to the program to allow him to compete in cusa.

that is what you all should focus on and worry about.

if a MU and Huntington icon can't get what he wants for the program.....what to you think the next unknown jack leg will get?

hopefully losing Pruett wakes the right people up and the new guy gets what he needs.  however, i think you should all be VERY WORRIED and FEARFUL about the future of the program.

Jack leg?  The only other person I've heard use that term happened to be from Alabama.  Are you from that region?  Not making fun of the term or anything, just don't hear it often and was curious as to what region of the country it's popular.

  • _sturt_,

I think you better read 2XBison's follow up post.  That's as close to the truth as any will say on this message board.  Certainly there are particulars, but his/her post pretty much sums it up.

I'm sure there are two or three with jealousy. This is the best scenario for all the assistants. Their jobs are stable under this plan. If an outside coach would come in our present staff would be in limbo.
