  • Thank god that means there was no 4 yr deal signed then, unless they are trying to keep it under wraps.

  • How did that rumor of Kuek becoming the head coach get started if WSAZ is stating and so did the Herald Dispatch that there will be a nationwide search.
I wanna know what is going on!

I'll tell you what is going on. Two journalists have been doing some reporting and talking to Marcum and Ferrell. That's what is called fact finding

Some guy is burning the phone lines talking to some other guy who knows someone, who knows someone else. That's what is called rumor.

That's what's going on. When somebody makes a statement like the "4 year contract rumor" and doesn't have anything to back it up it's probably just BS.

  • ESPN's Article has Kueck as the Interim Coach, so who knows what is really going on. I guess we will find out in a few days.

    Quote
Offensive coordinator Kueck named interim coach

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall football coach Bob Pruett retired Wednesday after nine years at the school.

Pruett, 61, told the team of his decision in the morning and held a final news conference three hours later. Larry Kueck, Marshall's associate offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, will serve as interim coach.

"We've had our day in the sun. It's been a wonderful, wonderful day," Pruett said. "No one could ask for any more.

"It's not about winning and losing. It's not about money. It's not about anything I didn't get. It's just time. It's well thought out. This is not a sudden thing."

Athletic director Bob Marcum was disappointed, but he respected Pruett's decision.

"There's no doubt, I've tried everything possible to talk coach Pruett out of it. In fact, I offered him my job," Marcum said jokingly. "I said, 'Listen, if you want to be the athletic director, that's no problem. I'm highly mobile.'

  • The individual that stated that a 4 year contract was signed is a great source, and I have accepted the fact that Marshall has already signed it's next Head Coach.

What Marcum and Ferrell are doing is called "telling the public what they want to hear." How pissed off would Mr Public be if they were told that Pruett's replacement took all of 30 minutes to find and had no head coaching experience what so ever?

And for those that use the HD as a source, DON"T!  Maybe you should read what Langdon is saying in Charleston, because he has been pretty close on the rumors for some time now. And he has said that Kueck is our next coach. So maybe it's time to accept it, and plan on supporting hour new caoch and all the players that will still give their for the Thundering Herd!

  • As much as I would like to get behind Coach Kueck, I still would like to know if he really is the best candidate for the job.  I don't doubt that he is a good coach, but maybe there is someone better out there.  I'm sure that the timing of Pruett's announcement was in part to help get Kueck the job.  Most new hires would've liked to have been in place prior to spring practice to assemble a staff and get the extra time to implement his "stuff."  I just think it is a very narrow-minded approach to not look at several qualified candidates with an open mind.

No 4 year contract. As posted on another thread by Pokey, this is a State Job and by law the job has to be posted and people interviewed. The state only makes 1 year contracts.

First of all............as an equal opportunity institution the job opening will have to be published legally, plus i think as a WV state employee, that you can only sign a 1 year contract at a time (i could be wrong on the contract part).

Having said all of that, i do expect Kueck to be our new Head Coach for years to come, and a DARN good one at that............mark my words. He is a PLAYERS coach, maybe even moreso than Coach P.

  • Pokey is to be commended, I guess... being the first fan I've seen all day who actually considers Kueck equal to the job, and actually, he's even more optimistic than that.

    For what it's worth, anyway.

Tito's credibility rating is pretty high around here, GB, and for good reason. He was golden during recruiting season with practically every scoop, with his only missed call I'm aware of (McClellan) being one that even fooled the Marshall coaches themselves.

We all know what the rules are, but we also know what the realities are.

Pruett himself was only on so-called "one-year contracts," but only in technical terms.

And as I'm sitting here, I know intimately of several situations including my own where a university has to advertise a position, but knows exactly who they're going to hire regardless.

If nothin else, I think one has to admit... there's not much reason for optimism that Tito is wrong... and no one -- Farrell or Marcum -- has said anything that thoroughly establishes that there will be a real search.

Marcum said so tonight on the 11:00 news. He said Farrell will conduct a Nationwide Search and will recommend a replacement to him (Marcum) and then he approves it.

There's no way he can sign a 4 year contract when the job hasn't even been posted! I'm not saying that he's not the guy they want, but they still have to post and interview other people. If a 4 year contract has already been signed before the job was posted and other people interviewed, then they broke WV state law.
