Topic: NFL blowouts

Now mind you I haven't checked the statistics on this but, what is the deal with all these blowouts in the NFL? 

The NFL always seem to have close games in years past.  Just having a 2 score lead in the 4th quarter was about all you could ask for from a team.

Now, it's seems like 6-8 games a week the scores are 40 - 14 or similar.  It's interesting for sure. 

So what is causing this?

Better offensive players, or schemes
Not focusing on defense - (using free agents, not paying defense as much, not drafting for defense)
Rule changes favoring offense and hurting defense

and do you think it hurts or helps the league?

i don't think you're seeing more blowouts this year in terms of % of games, i just think we're seeing more of them on national tv

Wow, thanks for doing that work....Interesting, for sure....

So there have been 12 blow outs in the first 4 weeks of this year, but only 6 in 2007...

I guess we'll have to see over a longer span, probably an entire season....

I'm just not use to seeing multiple blowouts per weekend...
