Marshall got off to its poorest start of the season last Saturday at FIU and still won by 32.

That fact isn’t lost on first-year Florida Atlantic coach Charlie Partridge, who saw his Owls spot Western Kentucky a two-touchdown advantage early before battling back for a 45-38 win last Saturday.

“As we look back, obviously we need to get a better start to some games,” said Partridge, who will bring his team to Huntington Saturday to take on No. 23 Marshall. “Being down 14-0 is disappointing. They hit us on a flea flicker. The one that we really took the hardest look at is their drive at the end of the second quarter. We could have done things better and at least held them to a field goal.”

FAU trailed 31-14 at halftime, but outscored the Hilltoppers 31-7 the rest of the way. Junior quarterback Jaquez Johnson led the charge, completing a school-record 12 straight passes at one point, and finishing with 325 yards passing and 95 rushing.
