If Marshall made an effort, Reynolds said, it could retain Pruett.

"At this point in time, he means more to this area than any other person," Reynolds said. "They need to figure out a way to undo this resignation. Most things could be accomplished if they set out to do it. Most things other than death can be undone."

  • The fact that Pruett is retiring shouldn't be a surprise to us...we all knew it had to happen eventually.  But, the way this is going down is not the way in-- my opinion-- coach Pruett would have liked to go out.  There is more to this story and hopefully the truth will come out at some point.

  • If Marsh says there is a way to undo this resignation than that is enough said. He would not mislead us; he has stated the truth. Coach P feel's like he has been screwed to the wall.

I know this man wanted 150 victories min..  Something is bad wrong, and I am afraid the truth might not surface.

  • I have to disagree with Renolds.  In order to keep Pruett, this administration would have to grow some and live up to its promises.  Not gonna happen.  It's Marshall's version of "Revenge of the Nerds".

  • I doubt it will be undone.  This most likely is the beginning of the end.  Not so much because Pruett is gone, but the reason he is leaving.  Unless the powers that be wake up, it's the beginning of the end.  Ironically, we should be on a high for a great move and schedule next year....rather than getting ready to watch it all go away.

Hope the powers that be wake up, but I doubt it.

If these numbnuts have screwed it up...I'll yank my donations and tickets like I'm starting a lawnmower in a couple of years.

  • i think coach got screwed!! why else would you quit when you are holier than thou in this town?? i think the administration is gonna tear us down. and why?? i don't care what they say, nothing has improved the student population more than the football program and their  national prominence!! we will now go downhill and we should have stayed in the mac or southern conference if we aren't willing to do what it takes to compete!! :-?

  • Listen to me when I tell you this guys, this is coming from someone who talked to a guy who recently quit within Marshalls program that told me what was going on!!!!   Pruett has had it with Marshall and they way they promised him things and never pulled through. Why else do you think he always mentioned upgrading facilities all the time?!  Trust me when I say this, he was fed up with the crap he had to endure at Marshall and knew the university was not fully commited to back the football program at this time and he gave them a chance to prove wrong and they didn't so he quit. Also, he and Marcum were not as big a friends as you might think. He was frustrated as well with Marcum.   Read the different articles when the people who really knew him say that he was frustrated!!! That is the truth!! There is nothing more to it than he was not going to put up with the BS of Marshall anymore and he did get tired of it and it was his time to go because of that.   PERIOD!    That is the truth from beginning to end.   Read what Reynolds said because he was a huge supporter of Marshall and don't you think he wouldn't know something about this stuff?!!

  • After having digested all of this for 24 hours I have come to the conclusion that it would be better to move forward with a different coach.  I love Coach Pruett and am very appreciative of all of the contributions he has made to the university, but it's obvious his heart is not in it any longer.  All of the fighting he has had to endure with the administration has depleted him.  This retirement is the result of a long-suffering feud with the suits that run the university.  To compete at a high level you need the man in charge to be fully motivated.  This retirement speaks volumes about his state of mind.

Now, having said that, I think we need to change the culture of Marshall Football.  We need to find an Urban Meyer-type coach who is going to come in and demand excellence from everyone associated with the program.  If you look at all of the successful mid-major programs lately they are run by highly motivated coaches that demand a lot from their players and support staff.  This cannot be a hasty decision, so I would not remove the interim tag from Kueck this season so that an exhaustive search can be done during and after the season.  Kueck can be considered, we owe him that much for steering the ship through this difficult time.

  • In hindsight, I wish Pruett or the Administration would have come to the fans with specific facilities plans and costs.  Maybe with a pitch like, "If we can raise X amount through public funds, we think the state would give us X amount to complete the project."  Instead, it seems like nothing ever got off the drawing board.  I know I'm opening myself up for criticism, but if someone would have pitched something like this to me, I know I would have dug much deeper than the annual BG, chairback, QB Club ante.

And I did see the drawings, etc. at the Putnam meeting awhile back, but those brick covered buildings would have never fit in our budget, no specifics were ever given for costs & construction, and this project was never sold to the contributors that I know of.
