By Gary Fauber Assistant Sports EditorWhatever negative reaction there might have been to Marshall’s bowl destination was not evident in Beckley Tuesday night.A pro-Thundering Herd crowd packed into the back room at Calacino’s Pizzeria to collectively watch Marshall’s 52-23 win over Northern Illinois in the Boca Raton Bowl. It was the Herd’s second straight bowl appearance and third in the last four seasons. It was the proper sendoff for 19 seniors who led the Herd to a 23-5 record over the last two seasons. It was also an ending befitting of what still turned out to be a special season, even if things didn’t end up quite the way the team and its fans had hoped.Marshall went into the season with expectations of a perfect season and a berth in the Peach Bowl against a team from the SEC. A loss to Western Kentucky on Black Friday, coupled with the negative perception of a weak Conference USA and even weaker schedule ended all that.
