Opening Statement:I'd just like to start and say number one, I want to tell you guys (the media in attendance) what a great job you and we really appreciate what you do for Marshall University. What we really appreciate about you guys is the work you put into it, the research you do and all your stories are based on facts. That's really a good deal. I want to clear up something that's been brought to my attention about Devon Johnson having a fractured vertebrae or disk or whatever. There's no such a thing as a fractured disk and I just wanted to let you know that we have the best team doctors going out there and I have great respect for Dr. Giangarra, Dr. Jasko and our entire staff. I have the best trainer going in Tim Pike and I can assure you that those doctors and trainers always have our student-athlete's health at the front of their list. Be it Devon or anybody else's situation, they're not going to let anyone get hurt in a game. Our coaches respect those doctors, from the head coach on down. The doctors and trainers make every decision as far as whether a player plays, not the coaches. I just wanted to make sure that we're clear on that. Also, for future reference, a horse collar is not an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but a personal foul. So if that comes across your desk at some point, you guys have the research to understand what that is. That being said, we're now starting our conference schedule. It's a new season and we're excited to be at home again against Old Dominion this week. Our captains this week are Jarquez Samuel and Evan McKelvey on defense and Ryan Yurachek and Michael Selby on offense. Just like always, new leadership will be a key to being successful and it's all going to be about the preparation that goes into it. We're excited to get into our conference for our first game and go play. Devon (Johnson) by the way will be a day-to-day thing whether he plays or not, but again, that'll be up to Dr. G and our medical staff. He practiced all last week for the exception of one day and we'll see how it goes this week.
