Marshall has not won with style during the first four games, but that doesn’t really matter. A seven-point win in double-overtime, counts the same as a 45-0 blowout. The Herd’s defense has played tough enough to keep it in all four games while the offense searches for its identity and battles injury. This might be the 2015 Herd, a team that finds ways to win ugly ballgames.

Deandre Reaves changed the game Saturday when he broke loose for a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He’s a threat to take the ball back on every kickoff and punt return, which changes the way opposing teams kick. The sudden change Saturday took pressure off the offense and got the Marshall bench and fans back into the game. There’s a reason Doc Holliday says the best players are on special teams.
