HUNTINGTON - Leah Scott calmly banked the basketball off the backboard and through the rim from five feet for her 1,001st career point at 7:37 of the third quarter of a Marshall University women's basketball game Tuesday. And the Thundering Herd played on.That's exactly how the 6-foot senior forward from Detroit wanted it, little fanfare for her and all the focus on the team during the MU women's 83-39 rout of West Virginia University Tech in front of 501 spectators at Cam Henderson Center. Scott didn't even come to the post-game press conference, preferring to let freshmen Logan Fraley, Shayna Gore and Madison Morris have time with the media."Thank you," Scott said to fans as she left the facility 30 minutes after becoming the 19th woman in school history to score 1,000 points.Scott, who scored a game-high 17 points, received plenty of help from MU's talented freshmen. Gore scored 16, Morris 10, Fraley 9, Khadaijia Brooks 7 and Ama Arkorful 1 as the first-year players accounted for more than half of Marshall's total. At times, the Herd had five freshmen on the floor at once.Marshall head coach Matt Daniel made sure Scott received some recognition after his team improved to 9-1."Leah's an impressive basketball player," Daniel said. "She and Norrisha (Victrum), the two seniors, it's pretty cool to watch them grow."
