  • Herd down 3 w/ under 10 seconds left after 2 3's made by GC and a FT  made after a missed 3 by MU.  A 3 to tie or die.

  • Heartbreaker, MU loses after the Antelope guy hit 2 straight 3's to doom the herd.  MU loses 85-81

  • Looks like we're going down to defeat. We have to play better defense. This team just can't run up and down the court expecting to win on 3pt shots alone.

  • They gave it a good run. The mental lapses are still haunting this team.

Good teams play defense! There's no way the guy who tied it up with a 3, should get the same chance again...

  • Can't comment too much on these two games because I couldn't watch them, but I think some of our guys continue to improve.  I know the fouls killed us tonight.  Keep working hard Herd!!!

  • MU did exactly what young, inexperienced teams do:  show flashes of greatness, and then blow the potential w/ mental errors.  It happens.  And will only get better w/ time.  More excited about this team after every game, but it's not going to be instant pudding like some expect and desire.  Give them time folks.  I believe the result ultimately will be worth it, but it's not going to be an overnight success story.

Two area's we have to definitely improve on are rebounding and playing better tight defense. A lot of fouls was called on us tonight.

i hope not. he was 1-9 vs wvu, 2-9 vs wyoming, and 0-10 last night. he's yet to make a two point basket in 3 games. he needs to get it going, we're just over a week away from conference play.

  • It's hard to win when the other team shoots 30 FTs, and we only had 11. We didn't get to line enough times.

Another thing is, for us to have a chance, Kelly and Taylor have to learn to stay out of foul trouble and quit picking up cheap fouls.

  • I really think the fouls cost us the game.  gc had 30 FT to our 11.  Since I couldn't watch it, it is hard to say why we were called for so many fouls.  I know according to Steve Cotton, Elmore was knocked to the ground a few times when driving to the basket and no call.  We were also called for a lot of offensive fouls. Several that Cotton didn't seem to agree with.  Not sure if our guys were being overly aggressive or a lot of touch fouls were called.  Our guys are gonna have to learn to adjust to how the refs call the game.  They just have to keep working.  It is good to see the guys improving.  Thought Terrance Thompson had a good weekend.  Had to play a lot for Taylor and did a good job.

Buffalo Bop, I appreciate you including vintage songs with a number of your posts.  I'd never heard of this last one but indeed "our goose was cooked" with the disparity in free throws!

  • I didn't see it either but normally teams that shoot a lot of threes aren't going to go to the foul line a lot.  Elmore seems to fall down a lot on drives to the basket.  You aren't going to get those calls if the refs don't buy it. (didn't see this one but in his other two he looked like he had some European Soccer player in him)

Good points.  Cotton had said he was "knocked to the ground" but regardless he didn't get the calls.  I think our inside game was much better this weekend although we are still shooting lots of threes.  Elmore will continue to improve.  Really like his hustle and effort.  Wish he was hadn't hurt his ankle.  I hope that doesn't nag him all season.

  • We lost to a good team. We easily could have won, and I think we should have won. In the end, this just comes back to our youth.

I honestly find it hard to believe that we were just fouling that much more than them. We took the ball to the basket as well.

One of the big positives is the emergence of Thompson. He came in with some big minutes this weekend. He is just a Soph. and seems to be getting some confidence. He took minutes from Dozic and it sounded like it could be an upgrade. Hope he can continue his play.

One more OOC game against Maryland, and then we are on to conference play. I'm excited about this team, and it is obvious we are getting better. These things will come.

I honestly think the program is moving in the right direction.

I can comment, I was at both games. The Herd is playing improved basketball. Defense wasn't an issue Tuesday night. Early foul trouble to James and Ryan really took its toll. There were periods of time that neither were in the game. We can't survive that.
One official, he did the wvu game last week, did all he could to lure Danny into getting a T. He stood about 10 feet from him and baited him. I thought sure he would get a T. There were bad calls both ways but I can think of 3 times that Jon was mugged going to the basket with no call. Then at the other end one guy would bump up against another ands the whistle would blow.
Hope we can come out of Maryland ok Sunday. If we can, we should be ready ,to open conference play.
Monday night was the best complete game we've played to date. That's encouraging to me.

If what we saw from Thompson the past two nights is indicative of what he can do, we will be better off. He played well both nights but especially last night.

Be careful there 'meister, I think you're dangerously close to a long technical lecture from Stripeshirt.

Thanks Meister for some insight.  I am encouraged as well after these two games.  Was hoping they could pull it out last night.  I felt like both nights we were battling the refs, but that happens sometimes.  I really like this team.  Guys are working hard and improving.  No pouting, no tantrums, no quitting.  They seem to really like playing for Coach D and his staff.  I hope we can do well in conference play.

  • Conference play is all that matters.. I think we can make some noise there just got to keep improving.. Hopefully whatever happens at Maryland Sunday doesn't kill the confidence/momentum we've seemingly built over the last 6 games.

Confidence and momentum will be at an all time high after we pull the upset.
