  • Dear Marshall Student:
I wanted to urge you to cast your vote for SGA President and Vice President for Megan Kueck and Rudy Watson this Monday and Tuesday (March 14 and 15).
Megan is a Junior International Affairs major from Dallas, Texas, and Rudy is a Junior Political Science major from Montgomery, WV.
Both Megan and Rudy are extremely dedicated to the position of SGA President and Vice President. Rudy served two terms as a Senator for the College of Liberal Arts, and Megan has always had a passion for politics.
I think that their dedication to this election is a strong indicator of how much they want this position. They both have been working very hard since November to make sure that this campaign goes smoothly.
If Megan and Rudy are elected, they really want to be a voice for the students. As of now, SGA doesn't really have as much power as they should. The Kueck/Watson campaign wants to lobby the Board of Governors for more power. They believe that the students should have more of a say in the decisions of this University.
Marshall University is currently in a stage of transition. If you want to have a say in what direction Marshall goes in, cast your vote for Megan Kueck and Rudy Watson on March 14 and 15.
We urge you to visit the campaign website at www.kueckwatson.com or email Megan and Rudy at kueckwatsonsga@yahoo.com. They want to hear your opinion, because this is YOUR campaign.
In order to vote, log on to MyMU, go to School Services and then click on eVoter.
    Thanks for your time!
    Sincerely,
    Kueck/Watson Campaign Manager

  • (I apologize if this is the wrong place for this topic, but I thought it wouldn't hurt for any students reading this board to make their voice heard by placing a vote.)

Hello fellow Marshall students. I am writing to encourage you to cast your votes online for Chad Caldwell and Srijita DasGupta as your 2005 Student Body President and Vice President.

Chad is a sports management and marketing major from West Virginia and I, Srijita, am a Sociology major from Tennessee. We both are honors students and are involved in many student organizations including leadership positions. In addition, Chad currently serves as an elected  senator. We have been working tirelessly on the campaign, and have a strong 14 point platform. The top 5 issues we want to tackle are the following:

    1) Extend the hours of the Gullickson fitness center

    2) Boost crowd support of athletics

    3) Allow use of credit and debit cards in the dining halls

    4) Meal plan reform for commuters and on campus students

    5) Lower parking garage permit prices to maximize utility of the garage

We would really appreciate your support! You can vote online Monday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Log onto myMU, then click on the school services tab, and then click on evoter. Let Chad Caldwell and Srijita DasGupta represent you!

    Thank you

    Sincerely,

    Caldwell/DasGupta. www.caldwelldasgupta.com

  • Boosting crowd support from students would be good but want to hear some ideas for that.

  • Several years ago one college in this area had each dorm, frat, etc. to take a letter from the nickname. They were given tee shirts(school colors) and each had a captain responsible for 'their team'.

Each group was assigned a certain section to sit so it would spell out the school nickname==GO HERD. After every Herd score the sections would stand up and hold up the letters. I think it took about 20-25 students per letter for the spelling of the name; each student had a section of their letter that put together would form the letter G. That way the letter could be seen from quite a distance.  The dorms, frats and etc. had their names put up on the scoreboard sometime during the game. Pikes held the letter h and Twin towers east held the letter e & so forth.

From what i understand --the student government worked with the athletic department  to arrange  the seating charts and etc.. It will take some work, but it would be  great each home game!!!
It's like the way the students hold up GO Big Blue @ the big house in Ann Habor.

After the game the sections held up the letters as the The band stands in front of them and plays the school's cheer/fight tune. The cheerleaders also joins in at th end of the game. It became a tradition at the stadium and the students, frats, and etc. thinks it's an honor to be'holders the Letters'.
After the season the booster club has a dinner for them.

Maybe the new student leaders will work on this project and more students will be involved in helping fill the stadium.

If you have ever attended a bball game @ Allen Fieldhouse each section has their lyrics when it comes to singing the fight song or at the end of the game when the Jhawks are sure to win-- the Roooocccckkkk Chhhaaaalllkkkk drowns out the PA and rest of the noise. It starts in one section and goes around the arena like the old song merrily merrily row your boat? from grade school sing arounds?

Anyway maybe they can start a new tradition to out do the thunder clap.

    go herd!!!

  • This is a good post, and a good idea Yogiherd.  I hope someone from the student body, and/or gov't. read this, and initiate this program.  I think it is a good idea.

    GO THUNDERINGHERD!
