Topic: Who was the best OC of the Pruett era?

It's quite incredible when you think about it -- a lifelong defensive-side coach gets a HC job, and in spite of a merry-go-round of offensive coordinators year-in-year-out, his teams become known nationally for their offensive firepower.

So, who was the best OC of the Pruett era, in your opinion?

'99 was  . . . Well, my brain is slow this morning.  Was it Zaunbrecher?

I would tend to agree with '99.  We were very diverse on offense.  Chapman didn't rush for 1,000 yards that year, but I believe he was hurt for a few games.  This is such a tough question to answer because the players make any coach, or OC in this case, better.  What really made the difference, I believe, wasn't the initial call in the huddle, but the ability of Byron and Chad to read the defense and get us into plays that attacked the defense at their point of weakness.

As entertainment last night, I watched the second half of the 1999 game at Clemson.  What a balance offense we had.  On any given play, Chapman could have galloped for 10-15 yards or Pennington could have thrown the ball to any number of receivers.

Hopefully, we'll get back to a system of unnpredictability under Kueck.

that was the best (and hotest) game i have ever been to in my life. the sweat i was covered with by the time i made it to my seat(3 rows from top) could have filled up a keg b/c it was straight beer. man what a game and what memories of walking out the tunnel at the end of the game with all those people in green yelling who's got a herd on and all those people responding i got a herd on!!   priceless!!

'96 - Kueck
'97 - Tim Nunez
'98 - Tony Peterson
'99 - Marty Galbraith
'00 - '01 - Ed Zaunbrecher
'02 - '04 - Mark McHale

Kueck's 1996 offense will likely go unmatched for several practical reasons:  
* Randy Moss
* Marshall's overall talent relative to rest of 1-AA in '96
* 15 game cumulative totals

Galbraith is probably my personal preference.  Zaunbrecher is down low on my list.

That's certainly an intriguing statement, Olen... I routinely respect your opinions, but I personally had always ranked Coach Z pretty highly, as I had guessed most here would... why so low?
