  • Apart from their usual Big 10 butt kissing, cfn gave a very thorough analysis of our upcoming season.
We are predicted to go 9-3 losing to Louisville, pitt, and USM.

    My thoughts?

Its entirely possible we can go undefeated. Our key game was listed by cfn as being WKU. I agree its a tough game, but in all honesty, I feel we will cruise in that one.

They picked us to lose to USM...not gonna happen because their head coach, is gone. We all know how bad that seems to turn out for USM...their new guy is a defensive mind as well...compared to our DC, and their inherent lack of offense, we should win that one.

Louisville is THE game for us. Its marked on the schedule and really will show us where we are. Marshall has a great home record, talent as good as UL's, and a rowdy home crowd...give us the edge.

I don't know much about Pitt though...

Everyone else is going to be relatively smooth sailing.
Some pessimists think Akron is our trap game. I don't see it. We played there and absolutely manhandled them...they're at Marshall with a team about as improved as it can get and just far superior talent.

Marshall is at a point where getting top recruits and overall, better talent than everyone else, is the norm. Everyone we played and beat, we were superior in talent and most importantly, depth.
We also have been winning more and more that CUSA titles are a regular discussion as opposed to the snyder error just hoping we don't get slaughtered next week.

I think a few people are going to sleep on Marshall this year (most won't be so foolish, especially at home).  We best Louisville.  Pitt is the one that worries me.  11-1.

  • It will all depend on maintaining an "edge''...most of us remember the '04 team that was brimming with talent but which imploded late in the season...I see us winning at least nine as long as CL stays healthy...

  • Glanced at Phil Steele's mag in the grocery store.  He predicts us in the CUSA championship game.

  • We have some questions at WR and CB. Plus gotta keep Chase healthy and 12 straight weeks of football without a bye week. Anything 8-4 or better would be a good year. Win the bowl game and keep the streak alive. I think we have the best bowl winning percentage of any D1 team now.

  • I think four losses with only 5 tough games, 3 of them at home and 7 home games total would BLOW and be a major underachievement for Doc

  • We always have at least one of "those"  games... i.e. Middle Tenn last year, WKU the year before, Ohio or Middle in 13... Wonder who it will come against this season? I'd say the prediction of 3-4 losses is reasonable but I don't necessarily agree.

7 home games should equal 7 wins. I don't care who's on the schedule. Also agree that Pitt may be a tougher out than the Ville.

  • I don't understand cruising through WKU until we beat them once.  They may end up being our new UCF/Ohio.  Just have our number for some reason.  Pitt will be easier than WKU.  I am certain of that.  I don't like WKU, but if you don't respect their program and commitment to winning, you do so at your own peril.

  • Anything less than 10 wins will be unacceptable.I see an 11-3 season.

Yeah, because 2 games, the first one where they blanked us the 1st half then barely scored 10 pts the 2nd...then the second game where they had, statistically, their best team in history...while we were on a rebuilding year...

You're seriously too quick to panic.

  • Also our neighbors up North are ranked 10 spots below us.  That might extinguish some couch burning fever.

  • Well. My two cents.

I see them as doing no research and they marked losses fr every single p5 opponent cusa plays. Thats not gonna happen i don't think. Louisville at home, is gonna be tough, but we at least have a tune up game and should be in good shape going in. Good QB play and we take it. Our defense should be improved this season honestly. LB core may be the best we have ever seen.

Pitt will be a hell of a challenge on the road. I am doubtful we get out of there with a win, given pitts improvement and they ahould easily be a top 25 team. Road games against good opponents don't fair well for us.

This season will teter on 2 things. Coaching on the offensive side of the ball, and injuries. Heater will do his thing on defense and we will play sufficient there to win every game on the schedule. Offensively, it has to look like catos sophomore year for us to make noise. No more 3 and out streaks, and zone reads runs into an 8 man front. Litton hopefully has put in the work on the playbook, and will have more command at the line, similar to Cato.

8-4 would be a collossal failure. We have to realize the new reality of out conference guys. We should never lose more than 2 conference games ever, really 1 to be honest. To go 8-4, we would be losing 3 OOC games basically every year, and if that happens, then thats the only time we can prove ourselves. 9-4 and cusa champs isn't good enough anymore. We need to win 10+ games and stay in the limelight so we may get lucky and get out of this dumpster fire of a conference one day.

I agree 100%. That is spot on, the key to this season imo.

I am very excited for this season, and agree we need to keep winning 10 games.
