The only way The American (AAC) stays relevant, is to hope that the Big XII pulls from both the AAC and the MWC and inks BYU. That limits the damage, but to make a big splash to stay in the game (instead of staying the hunted/weak and backfilling down), they need to take this opportunity to kill off the rest of the G5 competition and become the best of the rest conference in the G5.
That comes from grabbing the best available MWC, CUSA, and MAC if NIU is truly a candidate (15,000k a game average doesn't do it tho).
All we can hope is that if that happens we are part of that expansion, because if we get passed by in lieu of ODU/Charlotte/WKU and get put into CUSA 4.0 pergatory where we'll end up calling up more sun belt teams and sugar coating that we just need to stay the course, we can keep NQs, easier path, blah blah BS, we are done. Like, extra crispy done.
We should make contact with Southern Miss IMO and be a united front on going together.
We want our rivals back, whomever might be left.
Some will say, is it worth it? Exit fees? Teams are leaving the AAC?
The answer is simply YES. If we miss this opportunity we are taking a huge step backward by not moving forward.
It's only a matter of time IMO before Texahoma goes off to the Pac or SEC, and if the B12 stays together long enough in the interim, it will backfill and likely become the best of the rest conference, perhaps keeping the P5 label at that point. Maybe, maybe not. But we have to make the next jump and be competitive there to have a shot. And if a good core of AAC stays together then awesome. I'd love to stay. Hell, the B12 may dissolve.
If there is a best of the rest G5 conference, or if the AAC backfills, IMO, we have to be part of it.
We have seen what TV money looks like in CUSA.
