  • Maddox has been moved to LB.  He was highly regarded S.  He would be the 8th ranked lb on a very good lb depth chart behind
Yulee, Young, Cobb, Hernandez, Hancock, Johnson, Moody.  Of the seven in front of him (5 are Jrs).  He is a true Soph. listed at 6.0 200lbs.  If he can't play S/CB/WR now I would think a RS would be in the forecast.    Cobb could be moved to DE or TE, but is a good LB prospect with pro caliber length and upside.  All of the above junior LB's have been RS already.

  • does appear the D, in general, has some flexibility, has an opportunity to prove itself and keep the O on the field.  maybe it's the Herds year to avoid the injuries bug on both sides of the ball

Good observations.  There are only 5 true Safeties listed on the roster.  Why would the coaches move J Maddox 6-0 200 So. from S position where only 5 players are listed (2 being Seniors)......to LB position where he is probably listed at 8th best on the depth chart?  Seems like you would red shirt him and see if you can improve his speed, play, or whatever it is he may need to improve on to play S.

I like Cobb at LB, but lot's of talented players looking for PT there.  We are going to be loaded with depth at LB & DT in 2018, but suffer massive losses of Seniors after that season.  Cobb is listed as So, so wouldn't hurt to consider a RS for him, but keep him at LB.

Agree....Cobb and Maddox potential RS.  I expect Young to turn pro after this season if he plays well.

It does appear that the defense could be very flexible this season.  At DT there are a few players listed that have the size to be run stoppers.  At DE there are former LBs who could be quick & athletic, or go with size at DE.  Then, you have players like Ryan Bee who could line up at DT or DE depending on the situation.  The LB corps looks to have enough talent that the right player strengths can be on the field for run or pass situations.  We get some good play in the secondary and we have potential for a solid defense.
