The bad news for Marshall is Miami (Ohio) has a ton of experience returning, which means the continuity factor is in the RedHawks' favor. The good news for Holliday and staff, though, is they can get a keen look at the strengths and weaknesses at each position by watching 2016 game video.

There has been plenty of popcorn going around the meeting room for the coaches with video being dissected all summer and well into preseason camp.

"They have a lot of guys back and you can see them on tape that they're a good football team," Holliday said. "That coach (Chuck Martin) did probably as good a job as anybody in America (last year), starting out 0-6 and ending up winning six straight. If they kick a 35 or 40-yard field goal in that St. Pete Bowl, they beat Mississippi State, so they are an excellent team."

Holliday said the video study is critical to get the players prepared, but there also has to be some studying into strengths that can help coaches identify what particular adjustments and wrinkles might be thrown in - especially with an entire offseason to prepare.

Why aren't the Holiday apologists pointing to attrition as Holiday’s secret weapon? It makes about as much sense as pointing to three good years, while ignoring three bad years and a horrible year.
