Topic: Lexington Writer Advocates UK-MU Football Game

Mark Story, of the Lexington Herald Leader, has written a column pointing out that UK's future non-conference football schedule is heavy with MAC teams.  He points out that this most likely means many relatively easy UK victories.  He says that soon UK fans will sour on a heavy dose of MAC schools.  He thinks that fans will stay away due to a less than adequate non-conference opponent at Kroger Field.  Story says UK should look into playing schools like WKU and Marshall.  I would have to think that Marshall would bring 8-10K fans, if MU and UK would play.  I'm aware of the fact that Mike Hamrick says that UK wants no part of Marshall but I thought it interesting that a Lexington writer would bring up the topic.

We could use a Power 5 opponent and a home game in 2021. It's a shame UK is booked.

IMHO Hamrick is correct on this one, this article and opinion is a sportswriter's pipe dream.

I can’t see this happening. If it was good for Kentucky it would have happened years ago. Plus we would have won the game more times than not. The MAC teams an easy win. Plus no return game.

Every SEC team has 4 non conference games every season.

Check this year's SEC schedules.  Most teams have at least 3 home games; some 4, in their non conference schedules.  Most of these opponents are either FCS or G5 schools, who are paying on the road for a "check".  Many of the SEC non conference games against other Power schools are at neutral sites, like Tennessee's game with WVU at Charlotte on Sept. 1.  UK usually schedules a couple of MAC type opponents and an in state or nearby FCS opponent, like Murray State or EKU.  Of course, every other year, their annual game with Louisville is at home.  4 home games, at least 3 gimme wins, and then the mildcats only need 2 or 3 wins in SEC play to be BOWL Eligible!!

Similar situation at Louisville.  I believe they agreed to a 2-1 deal with WKU, with 2 games in Louisville.  Oh, the WKU "home" game?  Well, its not in Bowling Green, but in Nashville, Tennessee.

Get a copy of this year's football schedules.  Its the same in EVERY power conference:  Big !2, ACC, Big 10, etc., and getting worse every year.  Meaning that Marshall's home games with Power opponents like NC State, Louisville, Pitt, VA Tech, Purdue, etc., will be less frequent and harder to schedule for Mike Hamrick as time goes by.

I agree, and I think it’s all by design. The plan could be.....G5 is a separate division of the NCAA. I don’t believe for one minute that anyone in a P5 conference liked UCF taking down Auburn or a mid major reaching the final four.
