$300k from VT and a future home and home.  The $300k is not a net gain as any money from this game gets deducted from the USC insurance payment but is probably rather to pay for the immediate cost of getting the Herd traveling to Blacksburg.

  • MU has VT over a barrel so to speak. They needed the game and MU didn’t. Hamrick should have held out for the game to be played in Huntington or not at all. The schedule is set for the next 10 years so it’s hard telling when the future games will be played.

  • Answer is that we get nothing more.  Now the insurance pays $1.1M and VT pays $300k instead of the entire $1.4M from insurance.

It's a 2-1 deal.  If the first game was to be in Htgn and VT lost to UVA, cancelling game #1, it would have been our home game cancelled and we would then have an 0-2 playing them twice in Blacksburg.

  • Not understanding some of the latest info....how would this have ever been MU not getting a home game?  From what was reported it was either going to be a 2-1 with the first being this coming Saturday and Blacksburg and then a game in Huntington and a return game in Blacksburg...if Va Tech lost to UVa then the game this Saturday would not be played but it was a 1-1...how was this ever turning into a 0-2?

    That was never reported.

  • I wonder if Doc and staff get paid for any extra week?  as instead of having down time,  they have a game to prepare for?

It's the same week as Conf. Champ game weekend.

Since they are salaried, the answer should be no.  (Same concept: Did they lose pay when the USC game was cancelled?)

Rumor has it that there may be a move with two of the ECU games. ECU was originally scheduled to play VT, but took another game instead. It is said the Hokies are not happy about it.

  • OK - So if UVA beat VT Friday, the game currently scheduled for MU at VT Dec 1 would have been cancelled and they would have still honored the other two left, one at Htgn and one at VT.  I only assume that if the 1st game was scheduled for Htgn and it was cancelled then the other two, agreed for in Blacksburg, would still have been played at VT.

No matter, saying we should have the first game in Htgn is just silly.  We get a 12th game, we get a 2-1 for with an ACC team, it is win-win-win for MU.  Enjoy what Mike got for us.

If it costs 300k to get 125 or so people to Blacksburg for a football game, than we've got much bigger issues with basic math than football.

  • The $300k pays the difference and then some in the insurance payout. Apparently, from my understanding, the insurance payout from the canceled USC game is $1.3 million. By playing a 12th game, the payout becomes $1.1 million, then you add the $300k payout from Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech also agrees to a future two game series. One in Huntington, one in Blacksburg.

That is not simply the travel cost, but it does more than offset it.

Nice. haha. I can see John, "Ugh...Mikey, usually I have downtime during Championship week...umm...shouldn't I get paid extra this week?"

Link shows them full up until 2031.  4 Notre Dame games in the ACC/ND contract have an impact.

  • Just take a look at when they were to finish their contract with ECU; that should give you a good glance at when they'll be open to play us.

ECU picking up Akron instead of waiting for VaTech will be the reason we got a 2 for 1; and that it will happen sooner than folks think; at least one of the other games.

they worked that week preparing for a game.  same as the conference championship game?  they get bonuses for that game as well as a bowl game, so i think they'll get an extra check, or at least they should.

My source was a story in the Richmond newspaper. When the contract was signed it said the first available open dates for both teams was 2021. Also 2022 and 2024. Marshall was also open in 2023 but VT was not

  • Lots of rumor and ineuendo that Va Tech may buy out ECU. They weren’t happy with how things were handled the year.

They get bonuses as incentives for reaching/winning those games not for the work involved.  They didn't reach CUSA champ game, this is just a makeup game. There is no way they will get more money in their check for prepping for a makeup game.
