  • Save all your BS as to why we won't get invited, why we shouldn't, or why some other school will get invited before us. Lets make this thread 100% about WHY we SHOULD get invited to the AAC.

    I'll start with a few.

A known brand, Top 75 tv market we actually control, good football history, improved athletic facilities, new hotels in town, now ranked as an R2 Research Institution, excellent geographical fit and travel partner for Cincy, good basketball attendance that will only increase if getting in to the AAC, history with a lot of the current schools/programs.

Would love to hear some of the other things. We have a lot going for us. I'm sick of the pessimistic mindset of some people. Keep that in another thread, lets hear everything we have going for us.

  • we couldn't afford it if we were asked.
We are currently raising money for a baseball stadium and basketball training facility. That takes 20-30 million. How do you come up with millions more to buyout CUSA and pay entry fee to AAC?

Then if we are in, we have a budget of $19 million less than the present lowest AAC school (ECU).
As someone mentioned above, it won't happen.

  • We should do it on a football-only basis.  A little extra TV money and we have an AAC level football budget pretty quickly.

If they wanted a football only memeber they'd probably just keep UConn.

HM, I can't wait til this mentality finally dies off in the city of Huntington and Marshall sports. Absolutely ridiculous to sit here and watch you of all people have this sort of defeatist attitude. Glad you weren't the decision maker when it came to moving back up to FBS.

LOL...no they wouldn't. UCONN football is trash and is on a geographical island.

  • Long shot or not, you all missed the point of the thread, it's purpose is to discuss the positives of Marshall and what acttractive qualities we would have in the landscape of realignment. If you don't think we have any fine, but just stay out of this thread, there are plenty of other threads to discuss our shortcomings in.

Just love the self appointed moderators that pop up on discussion boards.  It's a discussion board, people have the right to post their thoughts on threads. So stop your pouting, if you can't tolerate other points of view feel free to start your own board and see how many people follow you.

Thank you. On top of being pessimistic they obviously have issues with reading comprehension.

I believe, also, HM that the sports "Herd Rises" campaign is really part of a larger overall campaign, perhaps a hundred million more or so for other school needs, academic scholarships, research endeavors, academic facilities, perhaps partly for the proposed Brad Smith Graduate School of Business facility, although I haven' yet seen any particular info on such a campaign.

No one is pouting, message boards don't mean NEAR enough to me to pout over, no one is trying to moderate the board either or tell people they can't share their opinion. But the thread was asking for opinions on what would be ATTRACTIVE about Marshall to the AAC or other conferences, what do we have going for us, that was the question. We all know Marshall has its shortcomings too in this arena and those have been discussed and are still being discussed in other threads. I don't believe it's trying to be a self-appointed moderator to point out that people are missing the discussion the OP was trying to get started.

We all know we're long shots and virtually no shots at all, but I do think it is worthwhile to have a discussion about the things the University has going for it and ways we can maximize the visibility of those things going forward to potentially make us even more attractive.

  • Out of any reasonable options, we are also located the closest to any of the current AAC teams. We are only 149 miles from Cincinnati who definitely needs a travel partner.
