  • To start the season the strongest and maybe deepest units on offense were the RBs and TEs.  Next was the OL.  That would appear to be a good thing on paper.

3 games into the season now...

Our QB play is inconsistent.  Our WRs are missing in action in the second half of games.

I'm not enamored with the OL play it could and should be better.    Poor OL play in the second half of the Boise game was the biggest reason for our offensive struggles.  In the Ohio game the OL had a good first half (as they did in Boise) but in the second half played poorly and without energy until the final 2 possessions of the 4th quarter.

The Herd offense had a good first half in the Boise game only putting up 7 points but moving the ball and controlling the time of possession until Boise’s final drive of the first half.  Marshall was wearing on the Boise defense.  The Herd offense managed a net of -10 yards in the second half of the Boise State game.

In the Ohio game the offense again had a good first half putting 27 points on the board and scoring 5 out of 7 possessions in the first half.  In the second half the Marshall offense was again shut out until the final two possessions of the 4th quarter.  The first 4 of 6 possessions in the second half the Marshall offense could only muster a total of 29 net yards.  The final two possessions resulted in 7 points and 141 net yards.  In the final two possessions the OL seemed to get re-energized, blocked well and opened up big running lanes.

What in the heck is going on with our offense?

What in the heck is going on with our offense?

This comes down to coaching. Other coaches make halftime adjustments, for some reason that's never been Doc's strong point. I hope Doc let's OC Cramsey do his thing the whole game.

  • Knox is the key to our offense.

If he's healthy and the coaches have enough sense to feed him the ball, we have offense.

Bingo! Adjustments are the key. That and we play not to lose in the second half more often than not.
