  • . . . a rousing start.

UAB's defense certainly has to be suspect after giving up 35 points in a 45-35 win over FCS foe Central Arkansas.

And how about perennial league strong boy, Southern Miss, after being embarrassed at the Rock in Hattiesburg by the Sun Belt's South Alabama, 32-21?  Yep, the same South Alabama who won ONE league game a year ago, and only 5 games in the last two seasons!  South Alabama broke a road LOSING streak of 15 games dating back to 2017!!  The USM defense surrendered over 520 yards in falling to the Jaguars!

CUSA's football rep and battered image certainly didn't get any better by its play in the first day of action in the 2020 football season.  Big Question:  Will Doc's Herd again struggle against such "vaunted" CUSA foes this year??

  • A very CUSA-esque start.

  • CUSA is clearly not a juggernaut but for USM to lose at home is a surprise.  Going to be interesting to see how the season plays out especially with the change in schedule.

We could go undefeated or 4-6...I am looking forward to seeing a new face behind QB.

  • UAB's defense actually dominated that game. UCA's first 21 points came off a defensive TD and two drives starting in the red zone. Then they scored two more TD's on the final two drives against backups.  It woulda been 45-0 had UAB not made silly mistakes on offense and played starters the whole way.

Southern Miss on the other hand looked terrible. Hopson is more infuriatingly conservative than Doc. Their passing game was working well, but they kept wasting plays trying to establish the run even when down multiple scores in the 4th quarter. Their D also had no answer for USA.

  • CUSA is a really really bad conference. And seems to be getting worse. I think even Doc can win the league this year and get an extension.

He'll probably finish the season in the Top-40 but only because half of FBS isn't playing. I'm picturing 6-4 with a reaming by Appy and finishing #2 or #3 in the East.

And I'm absolutely bracing myself for an extension, too. He wasn't coaching like a short-timer last year, there are no rumors about a search committee, and no recruits or players Tweeting about a replacement. I think he's here for at least another year.

The one person search committee is already in place.   ;D

  • If there is a coaching change, my concern is the next HC is already on staff.

Id take Cramsey . Im betting hed be a pretty good coach if he could run an offense without Doc screwing everything up

    Possibly. I am thinking Lambert.

Although Gerad Parker’s name seems to come up often.

  • Parker is, IMO, one of those up and comers type of coaches who can relate well with today's athletes.

I note it didn't take long for Coach Brown at WVU to snatch him up and he seems to be pushing Parker in terms of giving him more responsibilities and duties on the Mountaineer staff.

Local guy that has had some success. He got thrown into a crappy situation at Purdue as the interm head coach. I would probably welcome that move just because there are  some good coaches that think highly of him, and seems to be a good recruiter.

  • Usm had several players opt out late in the process.

  • Wasn’t USM a 16.5 point favorite? That is a bad loss for C-USA...
