Keep in mind that is Cole as a HS Sophomore.  Two more years to develop.  I'm glad we offered him now.

  • I love the offer. Its still way early, but he looks just like Chad, and clearly has the genetics to be great, but who knows. But that kid is welcome here regardless in my eyes, give him a scholarship if he can't throw a ball 10 yards. I will say that his stats are very mediocre, even for a sophomore, but that doesn't mean he can't and won't make strides. I saw he has been working with the dolphin's QB coach and obviously his Dad, so he can get better quick. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

One thing I'd note about his stats, are this. The team he plays for is a brand new program. I think last year was the school's first or second year of varsity football, Chad started that program from scratch at that school with a good amount of kids who had never played football until that season. Obviously, I'm sure Pennington's name has brought in at least a baller or two to the upstart program, but it's still an upstart program and that could impact his stats some I'd imagine.

Either way, I have no idea what he'll turn into but I agree the resembalnce to Chad is pretty striking. But, even if he isn't half the football player Chad was, if he's half the human his father is he'd be a great addition to MU and MU athletics.

  • Someone who has only coached at a private school level for two years ? thats the point Marshall football has dropped to ? Let the guy coach , at least as assistant coach , at the college level first , then possibly give him a look. He may energize the fans but getting the players to buy into a private school HS coach might be a little harder.

You're not getting the players to buy into a Private School HS coach. You're getting them to buy into a first round NFL Draft pick that played 11 years in the league. That's what they'd be buying into and that would not be a hard sell.

The list is very short for an easier thing to sell to a college football player than playing for Chad Pennington.

He is actually a class of 2022 player which makes him a junior.

I am like you...being an upstart school will hurt his stats.  There is really  no middle school feeder program for the Sayre School.  Kids will go there to play for Chad specifically and learn from the best.  He was really involved in youth football in Lexington for several years before he built this program.  Everything he touches is successful.  There were a few years he had tackle football and flag football teams he was coaching.  With 3 boys varying in age...it was crazy needless to say.  I hate Covid is around this year as it will limit going to watch High School games.  They play about 10 minutes if that from my house.  I went and watched them play their first year and was looking forward to catching some games this fall.

I got to know him when my son was on his middle son's (Luke's) baseball team.  He has a place on his farm that we practiced baseball.  It was an amazing indoor facility. It gave us a chance to get some field work in during February and March when weather was crappy outside.

The whole family is the best!!!  Down to earth.  If you didn't know who he was you would have no clue about his success on the football field.  Very kind and caring family.

  • Cole Pennington is playing in a designed NFL pro offensive system.  These are NFL concepts.  He is ahead of his time mentally as a qb.  He shows excellent timing!  This offense is like the one in Miami run by Penny (NFL Comeback player of the year).  If anyone thinks this young gunslinger doesn't have huge potential you are way wrong.  Not a big arm but an effective timing arm (arm strength will improve).  It's funny that Penny was not considered a big arm QB but he could launch it 60 yards and drop it on a dime (Moss playoff TD against Brees Chargers).  This is Penny 2.0.  Cole will be ready!  I hope he comes here and if it means bringing on Pennington as coach in 2 years / I don't care who coaches the Herd until they get here.

    2020 - Wells (RFR) / Cole (jr)
    2021 - Wells (RSo) / Cole (sr)
    2022 - Wells (RJr) / Cole (RSFR)
    2023 - Wells (RSR) / Cole (FR)

Let's get this boy!  Whatever it takes!!

  • I'm impressed with him but even more impressed with Xayvion. Good speed and power. At 6-1 185 as a HS sophomore he has very good size for a WR

    Pennington to Bradshaw ...... TD

    Both go to league

Go ol and rb with complimentary wr it’s 45ppg with Chad at the helm.  Chad would produce a prolific offense.
