  • How about this, sell commenorative bricks. this gives the fans who are not wealthy a chance to be a part of the local and Marshal history.
That way future generations will see there names listed.

    100.00 dollars a brick.
Make a deal with the Dispatch to have donars names listed in the paper.
    people love to be recognized.

  • I've been hell bent on trying to organize this fundraiser on the message boards since Pruett retired - I think the momentum is there - the University just needs to recognize it.

We could have the damn thing built or close to being built before next season starts...
In the middle of Huntington, West Virginia, there is a river. Next to this river, there is a steel mill. And next to the steel mill, there's a school. In the middle of this school, there's a fountain. Each year, on the exact same day, the exact same hour, the water to this fountain is turned off. And in this moment, once every year, throughout the town, throughout the school, time stands still.

I would dedicate a tremendous amount of my time, effort and energy to this cause.  I seem to be getting about 1 idea per day.  And they are not small ideas...... Think Big.

Remember when Bobby brought our 2000 team back from the dead with his "band together," strength in numbers, can't do it alone, got to do it TOGETHER speech?

Imagine if we could get Bobby behind this push.  If he would endorse it, and help publicize it, inviting EVERYONE to become part of the team . . . .

    Let's grow boogie's idea . . . .

$125 gets you a brick and a shirt.

But for as little as $25, you can still be a VALUABLE part of the team . . . and you'll have the shirt to prove it.

Sell the shirts locally and on-line (a unified, cohesive push . . . fan driven, but with university approval and assistance) for $25---proceeds go to football facilities . . . namely IPF.

This is a quickly thrown-together design, but you get the idea (and, yes, the shirts should be GREEN):

Hey, Marshall Jeff...you know who this is...say hi to sisterherd for me!  I believe if the university would start a campaign (newspapers, radio, tv) that people would jump on the bandwagon.  You could have a telethon and take pledges (like PBS).  Reach alumni by postcards, e-mails, etc. Be creative.  If you want it bad enough, you'll find ways to obtain the funding.

Coach Pruett always had the players wear rubber bands during the season as a symbolic gesture to "band together."  I think you could have some kind of Marshall community "Band Together" campaign in support of the badly needed IPF.  Billboards showing the new green "GO HERD" wrist band on the wrists of Bobby Pruett, Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, Troy Brown, Randy Moss with the caption: "Got Band?"  Herd fans, join   former Coach Bobby Pruett and former Marshall greats in the funding of the indoor practice facility today by making a pledge at 1-800 (phone number) or visit www.herdzone.com for further details.  Once a pledge is made, the recipient would receive a green 'GO HERD' band, certificate, t-shirt, brick, etc.   You could name the facility after Pruett in his honor or if he didn't want that you could name it "Herd Fans In-Door Complex" since the funding would primarily be coming from the fans.  Just a thought.

  • It seems we're all on the same page here gentlemen.  I really like the idea of asking Chad, Troy, Byron, et al to encourage folks to donate.  I just get a strong feeling about it.

Just a quick note;  there are some very successful, professional fundraising organizations out there.  I'm sure they could be of some help.

Hey Liv4daHerd!!  Great fans think alike!!

The fans/community should get frequent reports on progress through the various medias and websites.....  "We are approaching our goal herd fans.  We have XXX amount so far, but we still need XXX amount to reach our goal.  Let's continue to band together  and get our IPF up and running!"

  • In order to make that sure funds are spent where they are
designated for. a bank account is set up with IPF  designation only
also if funds are sent to a local bank, I think the bank will track the donors for you.
Al so if the Dispatch agrees to publish a donors page it will sell papers.
[Building it together is a great logo.]
Also any t shirts or such has to be done by local buisiness

Also does Marshal have a kids club you have to keep them fans up and coming.

Wolf, I can dig up a PhP book and make it. Is this site hosted by a third party or are you running the server? I was wondering because I can set up a database table to hold the entries for the signatures....

  • Hey they did that brick idea for the Browns new stadium when they built it.  You got your name put on it and it went on the stadium when it was built.

Good idea.   Here's an idea.  Why can't we put all these ideas together on paper and take them over to Marshall and say here some ideas.    Take them to who really would use them and not some "please be respectful" who doesn't know what the hell is going on.

  • Guys what do you think of my petition statement - if you see grammatical/spelling or logical errors in the below statement feel free to reply

As students, fans and alumni, Marshall University is an integral part of our community and lives, and the success of her programs whether it is academic or athletic reflects well upon her supporters. The football program has benefited our university by garnering national attention to our little known, yet excellent, institution of higher learning. As a token of our appreciation to a program that set the foundation for the phenomenal growth of Marshall University, we the students, fans and alumni have signed this petition to indicate our willingness to come to the call of our university and its athletic department and help raise the funds in a campaign dedicated to the construction of an indoor practice facility in the honor Coach Robert (Bob) Pruett.

  • Just a few tweaks here and there, but here are a few suggestions to tighten up the statement.  Good job!!!

As students, fans and alumni, we recognize Marshall University as an integral part of our community and lives.  The success of her programs---both academic and athletic---benefits us all in more ways than we can even imagine.

Certainly, our football program has honored us by bringing national attention to our beloved institution of higher learning. As a token of our appreciation, we the students, fans and alumni have signed this petition in support of a national campaign aimed specifically to construct a much-needed indoor practice facility, to be dedicated to OUR Thundering Herd football program, and to be named in honor of our former coach Robert (Bob) Pruett.

As students, alumni, and fans, we pledge to BAND TOGETHER!

  • This idea for the IPF is great, but why stop there? What if we do something for MU athletics that's never been done before? What if we started advertising in opposing teams cities about upcoming games? Heck, what if we start advertising home games locally - Heaven forbid Marshall would do it.

Listen, we can "band together" and do all kinds of things. We all have connections, talents that can boost MU athletics to the next level, why not do it on our own?

I own a Graphic Design firm and I can lend my talents and expertise to the cause. Who else can volunteer for this? What can you volunteer for this? We could use lawyers, copy righters, Ad men, radio talents, programmers, audio specialists, newspaper talent, photographers, ANYTHING?
