  • . . . Philadelphia Phillies won their 7th straight game Saturday evening, beating the METS in a sizzling hot National League East race.  Of local interest is the fact that former Marshall pitcher J.D. Hammer led a trio of Phils relievers in pitching 5 and a third innings of scoreless ball to gain the victory!  Hammer pitched 2 and a third scoreless innings to obtain what I believe is his FIRST WIN as a Major League Pitcher.  Philly knocked the METS out of first place after winning Friday night; it was the METS first time out of the lead in over 90 days.  The Phils 7 game winning streak is their longest in a decade, and they go for the sweep on Sunday.  If Hammer keeps pitching as he has, hopefully he'll be around through the rest of the season and be playing in post season play!!  Congrats to this former HERD player and wishing him continuing success!! ;D
