Herd fans! As promised, here are my thoughts on my first visit to Huntington this past weekend.
Marshall fans are everything people say they are. Yall were the nicest, most hospitable, most genuinely friendly folks Ive ever been around. From the moment we arrived in Huntington, we had people go out of their way to welcome us.. be it at the hotel, Kroger, HOF Cafe, and the several other bars/restaurants we hit during the weekend. Everyone asked me 'is everybody being good to you??' They would follow that by letting me know where I could find them on Saturday before the game. It was great, and I never felt on the defensive or like some sort of abuse was coming.
We found a spot on the street between Chipotle and Sheetz, and were immediately welcome by the Marshall fans nearby, as well as Marshall gameday staff in their golf carts. (Being able to tailgate next to a Sheetz is amazing, by the way.. clean bathrooms, A/C, and if you run out of beer? well, there ya go. We dont have that in Greenville.)
We found Go1970Herd and his crew a couple hours in, and I dont think we left until kickoff. What a great group of folks. Great food, really good conversation, and lots of beer and shots pre-game.
I love the Joan. Such a cool stadium, and you could feel the history. Ive seen it so many times on TV, but this was my first time there. The concourse area reminded me a lot of Dowdy-Ficklen, and we had great seats in 103. The Herd fans were loud, knowledgeable, and friendly, even during the game. When yall got up big, there was no trash talking. When we pulled off the miracle comeback, we were thanked for coming and given recommendations on where to go after the game. No cussing, no threats.. just thanks.
First-class all the way around. Thank you for a great weekend, and I hope yall kick Apps ass on Thursday. I may even dig up a green shirt for it.
