  • I never even saw the end of the game as I was at a funeral. So my comments aren?t directly related to the game. I?m also in the minority on this board in that I really like coach Huff. That said, NFL coaches aren?t 6-year-olds either and they don?t try to run the score up. They take a knee. It?s called class and mutual respect.

The NFL is not even close to the same for a number of reasons..

    1. Backup players in college just like in the NFL are vital to your team's success via the scout team, giving the rest of the starters, etc. However, in the NFL your backups are being compensated for their time with big-time paychecks. In College, the only way to compensate your backups for their hard work and dedication to the team is playing time. They deserve the opportunity to get in and run the offense not just trot on the field to take knees.

    2.  In the NFL, you aren't often going to have to rely on your backups to take over starting roles when the guy in front of them graduates. So getting the backups in game reps in the offense isn't nearly as important as it is in college for your underclassman who may be inheriting the starting job when that senior graduates in May. In college, you have to get reps for those guys to help the transition into the next season.

    3. In the NFL everyone is being paid such high salaries and wins are so hard to come by, you don't often want to take a chance to to run another play and blow someone's ACL for a game you know you have won. But, there are instances when teams don't take knees when they are winning in the NFL too, and it's usually when they have a young QB that is the starter in waiting and they know they need to get game reps. They'll let that young QB continue to run the offense.

    4. Style points are a thing in College and they aren't in the NFL, whether we like it or not as fans that's the way it is.

If we were playing our starters, I'd understand the complaints. But, we were playing the backups. People just want to whine.

  • Not sure if it was ever brought up in the thread but my understanding is that the opposing players were spitting on our guys during the game and it ticked off Huff so he did what he did for his players.

If you ask me, I like a coach that sticks up for his guys.
