  • he offered 3 guys

Don't argue that point.  But he got "NONE".  Remember back to when he was hired, one of the biggest questions asked was, "Can he recruit?".  That question is still being asked, and sadly answered, today!

  • Look I like Dan but the college game with the transfer portal has left him in the dust.   Coal or no Coal anyone can see the things he is pointing out.

    Terrible recruiting

    Terrible coaching

    It?s over

  • We look like a team that is made up of a bunch of guys that have never played together before. Zero chemistry, zero offense. I seriously couldn't even tell you what offense we are supposed to be running.

Defensive IQ is low, rebounding is straight pathetic. I'm not shifting blame but I'll say it again, someone needs to ask why Cline is here. He hasn't coached a single successful big in his Marshall career and that can't be all on Dan.

I expected Dan would have us trending up by now with at least some improvement. I really have no defense to his current coaching. It's bad! I mentioned I thought Dan seemed tired before the season started, maybe it's time he retires for a slower pace of life.

  • I dont care if he is wrong or right.  I?m just very cautious around people who want you to fail. The dude has nothing to say during a good game and win?but take a look at this thread.
Whether somebody wants another person to fail or not is irrelevant. It?s up to the person being criticized to either prove them right or wrong.  Dan and his poor staff are doing nothing but adding fuel to the fire.

i was being sarcastic, CH.  haha  he should've offered everyone in the portal...every one of 'em would've been an improvement over what we've got.

Got it.  You know it would be interesting to see out of all the D1 programs on our current schedule, how many, if any, had NO transfer players on their squads this season.  How many got new transfers this season?  Pretty sure about every other CUSA team has at least one such player, probably more.  Generally accepted throughout ALL of D1 basketball that A Coach HAS to use the Portal if he wants to be successful, win "enough", etc.  Are we to believe ALL these other D1 Head Coaches are WRONG and only Danny D. is right? Really?

Now I'm sure that Danny is honest and sincere and truly believes that he has brought in players lately whom he and his staff can "coach up" to that point that in 2 or 3 years, maybe more, they will be marginal to average D1 caliber players!!  But is that what we REALLY WANT for Marshall Basketball?

I busted out with a big belly laugh after Miladinovic threw the ball way over everyone's head into the back court, from not far from where the footprint of "The Shot" would have been if it were the Cam. And a couple of other times. Apologies for being a bad fan, I just can't let this stuff give me a heart attack.

  • I'm sitting here wondering why I watched the whole game?  What an absolutely awful performance!!!

I didn't, I gave up at half time and went to bed.

It takes a lot to get me to the point of giving up on a Herd team, but I've gotten to that point with DD and this team.

  • Herdzone has a quote from Dan about the team?s  lack of effort.  Dan said that was on the team.  Usually you hear something like, ?The lack of effort tonight was on me.?  Or at least the coach would share the blame.  Very unusual for the coach to throw his team under the bus.

  • Coal is not wrong in his overall assessment of this team and coaches. We are flat out terrible and I have no clue how we beat UAB.

With the game being in the CAM, maybe the team thought it was just another practice scrimmage.  The way the coach and the practice guys tell us how the team is world beaters in practice, that might explain the UAB game.

It?s not irrelevant if you are supposed to be a fan of a team.  Of course it?s on the staff to do something about it.  That?s obvious.  I?m talking about when a fan?s dislike or hatred of a coach outweighs their desire for their team, their school to win games and be successful.  It happened with Doc and now it?s happening with DD. It?s a poor look on the fan base.

  • I really thought we had turned a corner after the way we played against MTSU and UAB.  We were shooting the ball better.  We played decent defense.  But when ODU went on that big run in the first half, the team seemed to give up.  Credit to our guys for coming out in the second half and playing harder, but their poor shooting prevented them from making any type of comeback.  I said earlier in the season that Danny was going to have to coach this team hard during the game, but that hasn't happened.  He stands there with his arms folded and watches the other team go on large runs before finally calling a TO.  This team does not shoot the ball good enough to come back from large deficits.

The new AD needs to come in and make a change.  I would say he needs to come in and sit down with Danny and see if Danny is committed to doing whatever it takes to improve the roster.  But lets be honest, Danny will be 75 next season, what kind of future are we really talking about?

Hate? Hate is a strong word and certainly not close to true. No one hated Doc, no one hates DD. I am sure both are good guys. We can like them but we can also be critical of their coaching. It happens. I don't know of any coach in the history of sports that has been immune to some criticism on occasion. In this case, the criticism is warranted, sadly. This team is lost and losing ground each game. Time for a fresh start all the way around. DD has been great for Marshall on many fronts and he is to be thanked and appreciated. But it's just time to go in another direction.

  • You all miss the point of my post. Be critical of the coaches all you want. But also be willing to complement them when things get well. There are a few posters on this page that are absolutely giddy when we lose. Those are the people that I?m talking about.

Interesting take that I have mixed feelings about.  True, hate is a strong word and arguably overstates my opinion towards Doc.  I really didn?t like him though, from the start.  By the time he was thrown out I was convinced he was a true blue & piss yellow pouty through and through.  He didn?t care for Marshall all that much, but loved the money and the dream he would make it to the Hole even though there was no chance they would bite.

Danny on the other hand I?ve been a long-time fan of.  However, I see the need for him to step away from the situation.  I hope he will see this towards the end of the season and will step away as he said he would at his introduction.  My fear is that he will be a D?Antoni.  I was at Marshall wen Mike was there and Mike never gave up in a game.  I suspect Dan was the same.  I fear the never say die attitude will convince him ?just one more year and I can get this.?

Hate to say it, but if things don?t change and he won?t leave at the end of the season, then he needs to be shown the door.  I loved showing Doc the door, I won?t with Dan.

How could any fan hate on DD, I can assure you the entire D'Antoni family is well respected and loved by so many. I love DD as person and coach. But let's be honest, he's not coaching up to his abilities. Last night when ODU went on a 19-0 run, there were no time outs, we turned the ball over and it led to ODU scoring 12 points off of those turnovers alone. It makes me livid to see the same stupid mental mistakes most coming from the same players. Players like Beyers, Taylor, and Kinsey continue to hurt us more than they're helping us with their stupid sloppy play. The worst was seeing 7foot Goran being right near the basket and throwing the ball damn near to the other side out of bounds. These mental mistakes can be corrected, but since they continue to happen and not be addressed, they're going to continue to happen. This all falls on DD for doing nothing about it. We need a coach that can get in a players ass and let it be known it's unacceptable to keep making those mistakes.

  • Goran threw that ball over everyone's head and I just laughed. Only person I was mad at was DD for having his sorry ass in the game and then again for leaving him in there after that.

DD is completely lost right now. It's definitely time for a new head coach.
