  • Former Marshall baseball standout, Dan Straily, who is now 33 years of age, has signed a minor league contract to play for the Triple A Reno Aces.  He has been invited to the spring training camp of the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Wishing the best for Dan, one of the Herd's best.

  • Might be a pretty smart move.  Appears there may be a substantial delay to the start of the ML season, if there is one at all!!

  • Dan Straily gets a lot of fly balls, if he can get to pitch in a big ball park I think he'll have a fighting chance.

Lucky the DBacks play in a dome doing the Summer in Phoenix. I lived there and the Summers are brutal! Sunny everyday with temps in the 100's. If you have never been there doing the Summer, you will be in for a very hot surprise!

I have and I walk a lot...try to top 5 miles every day. The key is go in the early morning and be aware of the shade. We will probably winter there eventually. Love spring training baseball and I have a friend who runs the Padres camp.

  • 8+ years in bigs and over 10M in earnings. Not bad for a 24th rd draft pick from a college who doesn't have a field.

Was really excited when Dan latched on with the Reds.  He had a pretty decent year with them.  Was hoping he would stick with them but they either traded him or he signed a deal elsewhere.  Still young enough, IMO, that if he can control a couple of his better pitches effectively, he could latch on as perhaps a middle reliever with the right club in the Bigs!!  Good luck to Dan in 2022!!

  • Didn't he pitch in the Korean major league (KBO) a few years ago?
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

Straily is one of those guys that shows you don't have to throw 98 mph to get people out.  He was the Reds' ace the year he was with them, but that isn't saying much since they only won about 70 games that year.  I'm hoping he can get enough time in with the majors to get his pension with them if nothing else.

I hope he gets the pension too but if he needs it he needs help with his finances.
