  • In the post game press conference, RM's coach said they were bothered by Marshall'a length, especially Handlogten. He said they expended too much energy on defense and didn't have enough offense to win.

Here's more from the Robert Morris Coach:   RMU Pat Gallagher Head Coach Andrew Toole. "As I'm reflecting I probably made some calls that I didn't love, and that's on me, but Marshall is a really good team. Our defense gave us a chance, but we just weren't able to get enough on the offensive side. They are long as can be, and they switch out, which makes it really hard to get clean looks either from three or at the rim. We had some opportunities at the rim, but Micah Handlogten was able to either block the shot or affect the shot. Some of the perimeter looks I thought we had were pretty clean, but all of the sudden you shoot it a little bit quicker because you're not completely comfortable because of the length and size coming at you. I thought we guarded them in the first half about as well as you can guard them, holding them to 30 points. They're a really good offensive team. We're expending a lot of energy defensively in order to limit their efficiency. You can only stop them for so long. We just weren't able to get the shots or finishes we needed offensively."

  • I think the RM game was more of coming in not focused and taking them lightly more than fatigue. I don't want to start playing 2-3 more in the rotation and destroy the way we have been playing especially defense. When you start playing Goran, Early, Toussaint minutes you will start looking more like last year. I can see one of those for a couple minutes a game but you give all 3 4-6 minutes and you start messing with chemistry.

Danny thinks fatigue played a role in last nites performance.  This according to the paper this a.m.

  • If OAK isn't careful Jacob will be starting and he will be coming off of the bench.

Should be happening anyway. I think OAK should be at the 5 when Micah is on the bench.

What about the iron5?  Heck these guys are playing with 7-8. It wasn't tired play it was just flat out sloppy play from the get go. They came in thinking we can just show up and beat RM and when you think like that then that is how you play.

It seems once they get the lead its as if they think the game is over and their focus,  effort and intensity goes to sleep.

Physical teams wear you out faster than running teams. I think we've seen that in last few games in second half.  DD might want to give Early and the other 7 footer and maybe Braun some limited time and allow Taylor etc to get a blow in both halfs so they aren't dog tired in 2nd half. Especially when playing games with limited rest. My opinion.  I agree with him that fatique leads to mental mistakes.  24 MU TO's was the reason RM hung around.

  • It looks like moving forward we might need some rest for our guards.  I'm think 5-10 minutes per game.  Think it is a lot to ask Taylor and Kinsey to play nearly 40 minutes per game.  Not sure who the best candidate would be to give them a break, but I do think its important for our success for the whole season.  Hopefully over the next few games the coaching staff can get that figured out.

  • If someone else needs worked onto the lineup for just a few minutes it would be Early imo. Nobody else should get off the bench period. Early maybe should get 3-4 minutes a half and that's it. You start giving Goran 4-6, Braun 4-6, Early 4-6 etc and you start looking more looks last year than this year and I don't think Dan will go down that road again.

The iron5 didn?t play defense like this team does, with the switching man-to-man and the aggressive close-outs on threes. Andy in particular is playing too many minutes, and it shows up in the second half of almost every game. It is as much mental fatigue as physical. He?s only human.

If you only want to play 7, the ideal rotation would be to have Taylor, Curfman, Kinsey, and Conner share the 1-2-3 positions, with each playing 15 minutes per half; and Handlogten, Obinna, and Fricks share the 4-5 positions, with each playing 13.5 minutes per half. Obviously that is a guideline requiring some flexibility based on game conditions, but if we can continue to build first half leads, it is a realistic guideline.

  • I too think that Early would be the answer for 4-6 minutes of time per half.  Maybe it isn't necessary, but seems like it might be a long term help.

I'm fine with that 7 man rotation we use and wouldn't mind seeing Early get 5-8 minutes a game. But imo that is it and go with that. The team is playing to well especially on D to see that disturbed.
