  • I thought Harrison looked best on film of the 3 freshman that came in. Thought for sure he'd be the one to emerge, but who knows.
Harrison comes from an outstanding high school program in Ohio, Herbstreit alma mater, and competed against the best the state had to offer. I would have guessed he was easily the most qualified of the three freshmen, like you, I was surprised he did not immediately go to the head of the class.

  • Some of us, can process new information, like losing 3 games in a row, and then realize he is the same bad coach he was the previous season after the ecu meltdown. Some of us like ole big city, can't! Lol and that's ok.

    3 games in a row ?
when ? Last year. Who cares about last year. Neg Nellie

  • Geez, people...  enjoy the moment.  There's no question MU was MUCH better this year, even with the obvious shortcomings that we can all see.

-We beat (not a fluke) Notre Dame at Notre Dame.  How many teams can say that?
-We won 9 games.  Should have won a couple of others, but didn't lose to any bad teams.  The closest "bad" team was BUGS, and they played out of their collective gourd that night, plus if Laborn doesn't fumble we still win that game.
-MU was largely one-dimensional the last 1/2 of the season, using the passing game as an extension of the running attack - very little downfield passing.  Even with that handicap, MU overcame it and had success in running the ball with a controlled passing attack and managing the clock.  You can't tell me that Trickett didn't know he could only use 2/3 of his playbook and kudos to him for adjusting effectively.
-The defense hid a lot of deficiencies, but so did the 1986 Bears.  You win with what you have, and MU did that effectively most of the year.

    Going forward...
-MU needs a passing QB or for Fancher to take a massive step forward in that category.  I'm skeptical.
-MU also needs a WR or 2 that can create space and run past slower DBs.  Will Keaton be back to help that?  What about the transfer from UK that was a track star in high school?  They really, really need to stretch the defense.
-LOTS to replace on the defense, esp. if some with eligibility (i.e. Porter) choose not to return.  Losing Bush will hurt some, but more for depth than productivitiy.
-Who's going to back up Ali, assuming that he returns?  Payne is serviceable, but I'm interested in what the freshman can do.

The mark of a great team is to win the games you should, and pick off a game or two you shouldn't.  MU didn't take care of business the middle of the season so I'd rate this year a solid "B", with a bunch of disappointment because it could have easily been an "A".

Good assessment.  I would add that the team could very easily have cashed it in after the loss at Troy made it extremely unlikely that we'd be playing for a conference championship but they didn't and we finished the season with 5 wins in a row.  Winning five in a row not easy to do.  We are one game breaking wide receiver away from being a top 25 team.  Force the defense to be worried about a 30+ yard pass on every play and it opens up the rest of your game.  Until we have that WR though, it doesn't much matter who is slinging the ball.

  • According to his Twitter, Zamora has one offer thus far in the portal and it's from Catawba.  I'm not particularly worried about that loss.

    Wonder if he might return.

  • I didn't even think about that with Zamora, but Charlie Gray did that last year.  Entered the portal, but ultimately stayed.

    Great post MM!

I concur and hope Huff continues to improve and also show he loves Marshall and Huntington, even if it's not for much longer. Convince the fanbase there is love for this place while you're here......that's critical.

    Go Herd!
