  • As a result of their tourney run, applications for admission went up by 33 percent. Most of the players transferred after the coach left for Seton Hall, but they're rebuilding.

  • Winning is important. To stay on top takes a good administration. Fortunately, we have Spears and Smith.

Marshall fans should be happy to be 9-4 in football and 11-2 in basketball.

  • We have a solid football program that is known, solid B'ball program, nationally prominent men's soccer program, a softball program that's competitive year in and year out. Not bad for a small public school in WV.
We do a darn good job with what we have and where we are located. I am confident Smith and Spears came here at the right time.

  • Wonder if Danny, Coach Cline, etc., have ever thought of trying to schedule a game/series with St. Peters, given our past history with them.  Back in the 60's, early 70s, in Coach's Day or a little thereafter, we played them a few times, including in that NIT where we made a pretty good run under Coach Ellis Johnson.  They had a pretty good player who, in my opinion, had one of the better names of any HERD opponent over the years:  "Elnardo Webster".   He and another Herd opponent of that era, in fact, would make my All-Time HERD Opponent "NAME TEAM":  Dwight "Bo" Lamar, of then SW Louisiana, now just "Louisiana"!!

  • Spears and Smith would capitalize on a deep tourney run. Let's hope that happens. We have the ingredients for a magical run.

  • St Peters also recruits the best player they can get.  FQ, maybe a FQ, maybe a NQ they go after who is good and don?t worry about much else.  They are all about the W

    . . . and we're in the process of building a top-notch, first-class baseball facility . . . . eventually!  :D

Actually, we played St. Peter's in the first round of the 1968 NIT and St. Peter's beat us in double overtime.  As a teenager, I felt crushed because we had done so well, in the NIT, the year before, reaching the semi-finals.  I remember thinking, how can we get beat to a no-name team like St. Peter's?!  Of course, I imagine the St. Peter's fans were wondering who in the world was Marshall.  Elnardo Webster. whom you noted, scored like 54 points and we couldn't stop him.

yeah Bo Lamar was some player and I think Ol'Ellis recruited him but Shirley at SWL and gang dangled the sports cars and etc. at players they were recruiting and stole them away from everyone. SW-L beat the Herd in the NCAA in the spring of 1972 and the Herd played them in the December of that year at their place. Several of us that worked part time at B&B along with our manager driving us down in his new Imperial(sp?) made by Chrysler were at that game. They were loaded again for that seson.
Mike D was asked the question after the game if the Herd thought they were going to take the regular season game against SWL and he said yeah but on Bo's first shot when his shoe laces was at my eye level I just had a feeling it might be a repeat of the tourney game.
