  • I like the below annoucement, thinking outside the box by Smith.

Marshall University President Brad D. Smith today announced that Brandon Dennison, founder and CEO of Coalfield Development, will join Marshall as vice president of economic and workforce development, effective July 1, 2023.

The new post is part of Smith?s goal to position the university as a prosperity platform for West Virginia and beyond.

Dennison is tasked with working with his department heads to develop the collective vision for Marshall?s economic and workforce development efforts and applied research projects. His team includes Marshall?s Advanced Manufacturing Center, the Southern WV Brownfields Center, the Center for Environmental, Geotechnical, and Applied Sciences, Marshall?s Sustainability Department, and the Alliance for the Economic Development of Southern West Virginia.

  • I've known Brandon for about 30 years. You won't find a more brilliant, energetic, positive person who bleeds green and cares about the people in this region. It can only be good news that he's officially with the university now.

I ran into him in the stands during halftime of the 2001 GMAC Bowl when we were down 38-8, and he was 100% adamant that we were going to come back and win that game.

His dad was the dean of the J-school and his older brother was the long snapper for some of the Leftwich teams.

We need someone just like him to run for Mayor. Although I am sure it would be a huge pay cut.
