  • Difference is I know the Marshall team and what we needed to replace and do not think we have done it this offseason or gotten better. You are basing these teams being bad off of no quantifiable data or reference. Just that you are flying off because Wake and Ole Miss are not there.

    That's the difference

Also, the teams in this tournament will be better than Coppin, Chicago and Tenn tech who we played last year.

So you are basing ours off what we lost. And they lost virtually their entire team and coach lol. Ok gotcha!!! And yes Ole Miss and WF pulling out was a big deal. Maybe they even saw how crappy this tournament turned out and bailed. Ever think of that?

Again, I am basing the teams in this tournament will be better than playing Coppin, Chicago state and Tenn Tech.
It is possible they could have pulled out because of the other teams there, but that was not my point and has never been in this thread.

  • Well, Ole Miss has done a lot better in The Big Dance than USU in the most recent years. Since 1981 they have made it to The Big Dance nine times; advanced to the round of 32 three times and made it to the Sweet Sixteen once. I don't  where know you come from, but Ole Miss is a much more recognizable program than USU.

I would like to see the financials of this tournament. I would guess it is a "pay to play deal"? I don't think MU should be spending a lot of money on an off shore tournament without playing a recognizable basketball program. I bet MU could have saved a ton of money by participating in a tournament in the USA. We should be playing a road game at a P5 school and getting game experience against a good program and receive a nice paycheck than spending money to fly offshore to play mid majors.

Ole Miss is a football school, only reason people would care about them because they are in the SEC.
They went to the round of 32 in 2013, 2001, and 1999 (nothing recent). And went to the sweet 16 in 2001. Maybe they will change this year, but they are not a big name basketball school.

Also, I think you will be happy we are supposed to be playing a power name school for a pay day as well.

If you don't think playing Ole Miss or Wake wouldn't excite the fan base more than playing Drake, Stephen F Austin or USU then WOW!!! But at least they added FIU😳😳

Reading is hard sometimes, I've continuously posted these teams will be better than playing Coppin, Chicago or Tenn Tech. Show me anywhere where I've said Ole Miss and Wake would not be more exciting?

Oh and don't forget about Akron haha

Well you keep trying to make your case to flat tire2 how bad Ole Miss is and blah blah blah. Just going by what you post. I just see no reason to go 500 miles south of Miami to play a Mac school, CUSA school, Drake, SFA and USU. but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I never once said Ole Miss or Wake is bad (as mentioned, reading is hard sometimes) they are not basketball power gods and haven't been relevant in years. People freaking out because those two left...oh well.

Our first game there is against a quad 1 team from last year, been to the tournament pretty frequently and won their conference in recent years (but I forgot you keep mentioning history doesn't matter, but does when you try to use it to support whatever case you are trying to make).

So one more time, the tournament teams will be better than playing Coppin, Chicago and Tenn Tech.

  • While I will miss the extra home games, this tournament is a start. Prove yourself here and maybe a better one happens next year.

  • 3 games in 3 days relatively early in the season seems to be few and far between for the Herd.  it will be interesting to see what shape they're in, if they can run, shoot quick and score.

i don't recall- do MTE tourneys affect how many exhibition games you can play or how many games overall?

  • Could have played 3 low D1 teams at home and a P5 on the road in the MTE and not traveled 1600 miles to play these teams. At least we would have got a P5 on the road and 3 home games with money at the gate.

We have been in MTE events for years and still play 2 exhibition games. If you don't play an MTE then you can only play 29 regular season games. If you do play an MTE you get 31

  • Well, with 3 sure games in the islands, the regular season schedule, Out of conference games anyway, should be pretty close to completion.  Any additional info on some other opponents, including any "Majors" that we may be scheduling, Herdmeister, (or anyone else)?

  • I like it. It is good for the team to get away and play 3 games in a tourney setting. Some of those programs aren't bad depending on the season. Oakland may have been down last year, but Greg Kampe has been the coach there for quite some time and always has his teams prepared. They gave WVU all they wanted in Morgantown two years ago. Utah State will be a challenge in the first game.

I was on campus a couple of weeks ago. I saw OAK finish up a early morning workout at the Henderson Center. He looked good. Saw Jacob Conner. He looked good. Braun had on a pretty thick cast when I saw him.

I hope the kid from Maryland Eastern Shore can help us out. I think he is a real key.
