  • With the recent chaos (to put it mildly), other issues seem to have fallen by the wayside.  Turf installation is one of those issues.  Has anyone Herd anything about the schedule?  I am really looking forward to walking into the stadium and seeing a new surface.

This may be one of the forementioned "issues" that could have been a factor in the retirement of C.P.  I, among others, will be extremely pissed if the installation has been delayed or worse.

  • On Sportsline on Wed night Chuck Landon said that they are having a meeting concerning the weightroom and meeting rooms soon to make the go ahead to build them (new meeting room(s) will be amphitheater like).  He also said the turf money is supposed to be there also.  From the way it sounded this stuff is paid for but they just have to start construction.  I would say construction will begin after spring game.  That is my guess.   Turf will be laid then also while they are adding on to facilities building.
Let's cross our fingers on this and hope this is not one of those broken promises made to coach that forced his retirement!!

  • I always thought the turf project was part of Joan Edwards donation (why we named stadium in her name). Part of the 4 million was to pay CUSA entry fee, part to pay for turf and other funds to be used as part of other athletics projects.

  • I thought Kayo siad he was ordering the turf for the stadium and IPF at the same time because it would save a lot of money.

If he only orders the turf for the stadium this year then we wasted a year and did not save any money.

  • The money is there. It has been earmarked for the new turf. The poor condition of our funding begs, for all of us to worry, but this one particular project will get done, because there were teams filing complaints with the conference about the turf condition last year.

  • than the current turf...but it's still horrid for today's standards.

3-4 schools in our HS league have Fieldturf.

Fieldturf or Momentum will be a huge upgrade.  That extra year just means they have had longer to design a midfield logo.

Please, no 2 tone (striped) fields

  • I agree with you Chris, and would be very excited to see some new color on the Herd's turf. Each color costs an additional amount of money.

  • i pretty much know for a fact that the fantasy camp announcement was delayed due to the turf, and the fantasy camp on may 27th will more than likely be held on the practice field due to the installation of the turf.

  • Either there, or they may be considering the re-routing of traffic so they can conduct the program on third(3rd) avenue. This was a legislative suggestion.

This was true from what I heard and read and these monies were given specifically or "earmarked"...but I also heard from a reliable source that outgoing MU President Dr. Angel redirected a portion of those funds (the new turf) and spent it elsewhere.  From what I was told, that caused a lot of friction between Pruett and Angel.  So much so that at a board meeting, Pruett stood up and said either he goes or I go.  If you noticed, Angel "left" all of a sudden and rather hurriedly.  IMO, if someone does that (redirects funds that were earmarked) that's misappropriation of funds in my book.

The nice donation by Joan was to pay for our entrance to CUSA, our exit fee to the MAC and the new field turf.

Ding, Ding, Ding, ... Bingo ... We have a winner ... The last I was told (3-4 weeks ago) was most of the money couldn't be found ... It had pretty much all been moved into other projects ... But noone could give a definative answer on where exactly the funds where when questioned because there wasn't a paper trail ... Somebody knows where the money is, but they aren't saying ... Like I said this was about a month ago when I heard this same exact information so maybe/ hopefully it has all been resolved now ... And like Liv4daherd I trust this info greatly ... I was so disgusted I didn't want to post it, but now that it's out I will verify that I was told the exact same thing almost verbatim.

  • My understanding is that it has always been the plan to install it AFTER spring practice! Think about the weather in Jan. and Feb. it makes sense to wait until it is a little warmer. Also, there is another factor that some are forgetting, and that is there had been talk of removing the crown from the field due in part to the new turf will have better drainage. That could take a little time in itself.

So how about we wait until it is suppose to be installed to worry? :???:

Huff, that is correct the crown will be "shaved" down ... Not completely eliminated, but significantly reduced ... Also, drainage wasn't the main reason the crown on the field was so exaggerated ... That is what OU had when Donnan came to Huntington ... The theory was if you implemented the wishbone style offense like they ran at OU at that time you would always have the advantage of running down hill.

  • If they are installing it after Spring practice then surely a contract has already been entered into by the University.  I was under the impression everything is on schedule, but if someone wanted to do their homework it shouldn't be too difficult to find out the terms of the contract or purchase order.  I don't want to spend the time doing it because, for now at least, their seems to be no reason to worry about it.  One of the attorneys can answer but shouldn't that info be FOIA?

Sounds like a great subject for Henshaw to write about.........

ThunderZone...ding...ding...ding!!!  You are absolutley correct with your assessment!!!  Donnan did have it installed with an elevated crown.  Opposing teams have complained about our "pronounced" or "elevated" crown.  Team that comes to mind:  UCF's first visit here, their QB (Ryan Schnieder (SP) had fits and was overthrowing his receivers all night long.  I'm sure there must be an NCAA regulation as to allowable height...I posed the question to Landon and never got a response but I would bet that our crown is probably at the maximum allowable height.
