  • WVU.  Was it Grassie?  Did he give them a #1 vote to keep his players motivated?  In the past 10 days we've beaten teams that tied WVU, so how would any objective voter give them a #1 vote over us?  Gotta be a motivational thing by Grassie.

Herd #1 in Coaches Poll, #1 in Top Drawer Poll, and most importantly, #1 in RPI.

6 regular season matches left; 3 matches to win the Sunbelt Tourney; 5 matches to win a 2nd National Title.  Long ways to go.

    So, Go HERD!

  • VCU, after losing to us, went to Chicago and beat a pretty good Loyolla Chicago team. Their RPI jumped from close to 70 to 40. Not sure the RPI "formula" is as good as it should be. Liberty has a good RPI but really hasn't beaten anybody. Me thinks too much emphasis on who you play vs who you beat.

Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

  • RPI formula is actually pretty simple.

25% of your RPI score is your winning percentage (Ties could as half win, half loss).
50% of your RPI score is your opponent's winning percentage (ties count the same way).
25% of your RPI score is your opponent's opponent's winning percentage (OOWP) (again, ties count the same way).

That is it!  It's that simple. And schools learned that RPI can definitely be "gamed".

Look at our schedule this year - we've only had 2 OOC opponents not hold up their end of the bargain (Oakland, Clevaland State).  Everyone else either has a really high win percentage, or has played a schedule that gives us an OOWP boost.

Right now, we have maxed out the first 25%.  We have the 3rd best OOWP in the nation.  And our opponents (50% of our RPI rating) are a combined 34-25-28.  Put it all together and we're #1 right now.

Agree. Not always a true indicator of quality...which is why I question why the committee uses it so much. Seems like CYA. By their metrics we were one of last teams in last year. Then we win two rounds on road before losing on road shorthanded to eventual natl runner up Indiana.
