  • Did he get banged up?  Don't remember seeing him the last series or 2.

Good question, might be another mystery

  • I believe he was pulled for Payne.  This was a weird game.  Very suspect calls by both teams.  Protecting something.

  • We need to play a 2nd dynamic runner.  We need more weapons in the backfield.  Ali was running fine today.  About 5ypc.  He should have been given to ball more.

Now we know we can score without him and have a passing offense.  That should pay dividends going forward, both in our confidence and our opponents ability to prepare for us. They now have to account for us to be able to move the ball on them if they stack the box after ODU and NCState.

What?!?!  We still have no vertical passing game. Fancher will overthrow on deep routes that?s just a given.  Everything else will be at most 8-10 yards down field. That?s not a recipe for success.

You apparently have been watching without seeing.

What did I say that was untrue?  Without a legitimate vertical passing game defenses will still load the box.  Fancher still throws most passes to high and he couldn?t hit an open receiver more than 20 yards downfield if he tried.  He is averaging a little more than 6 yards/ pass attempt, good enough for 93rd nationally.  His longest pass play is 40 yards good enough for 174th nationally. He has a near 1:1 td to int ratio. He isn?t our only problem but to say defenses need to fear our passing attack now doesn?t match with reality

I don't think they need to fear our passing attack but they need to respect it.

  • We're doing enough with just screen passes to spread the field and make them cheat outside.  Dont have to throw hail marys to get them out of the box.  And Fancher is hitting guys downfield more often and making them pay for lack of coverage.  10-15 yards is all you need to accomplish that.  And if it's not there because they're covering then he can use his feet to get first downs.  If you don't see that he is doing these things more and better, i don't now what to tell you.  We didn't run much at State because we didn't need to and we gameplanned not to.  It didn't work out to a win but it kept us from playing to their defensive strengths and made the runs we did use more effective, hence the 5 yds per carry for Ali vs a stout run defense.

  • Ali needed to be used when we became stagnant on offense.  He was close multiple times from taking it the distance.  We will not win many more without him if any.  Some of the 2nd and 3rd and shorts he needed the ball.  Fancher under center quick handoff to Ali.  TD!!
