How can we be ranked fifth in the nation in third down conversion defense and sixth in the nation in first down conversion defense and be so horrific defensively?!  I've not found a stat for second down conversion defense but we have to rank 133rd, don't we?

when you give it all up in 1 play all those stats go out the window.

Sluggo nailed it. If you give up a 75 yd TD on the first play of a drive they converted no first downs and no 3rd downs.

Against ODU they had 280 yards and 4 TDs on 4 plays. The other 50 plays yielded 153 yards and 1 score on a short field.

In reality our defense isn?t bad on about 85% of plays, but when we screw up it?s really bad.  I would bet that we have given up more plays over 40 yards this year in 5 games than we did over the previous 20 games.  It?s part people losing their assignment but also part schemes.
