  • Most P5 coordinators make 700k to 2 million.  Even position coaches make 400 and 500k.   We are going to have to look at G5 and below and we probably need to take that buyout money that was supposedly gathered and bolster the new OCs salary.

            Jason Semore   Marshall   $300,000   S-Belt   $25,000
    710   Clint Trickett   Marshall   $183,000   S-Belt   $15,250
    796   Jovon BouknightMarshall   $150,000   S-Belt   $12,500
    936   Ralph Street   Marshall   $110,000   S-Belt   $9,167
    951   Derek Shay   Marshall   $105,000   S-Belt   $8,750
    978   Bill Legg           Marshall.    $100,000   S-Belt   $8,333
    989   Telly Lockette   Marshall   $100,000   S-Belt   $8,333
    Johnathan Galante   Marshall   $95,000   S-Belt   $7,917
       Shannon Morrison   Marshall   $80,000   S-Belt   $6,667
            Chevis Jackson   Marshall   $50,000   S-Belt

We should look at the most prolific FCS offenses and start, that's what ODU did.  Fordham had the most dynamic offense in college football and ODU raided them and took their OC and NIL'D away their starting quarterback.

  • If the total package for the MU coaches/assistants/etc. that you listed for MU are correct I don't understand why any of them would want to put in the crazy hours (I assume) that they do for that amount of money.
Before I retired, I didn't work anywhere close to that number of hours and received very good pay.

I can only assume there is a lot not included in the amounts you have listed for them.

    Here's my source

I don't see any reason they are paid any more, other than the number after their salary is their bonus potential.  That's the way coaching works you take a 60,000 job and work to get a 120,000 job then you work to get 300k job and so on.

  • Marshall is a GREAT job. They can use this as an opportunity to move up the ladder to a better paying job.

  • Good point, but if someone is looking for a job, I'm not sure their prior salary will have an impact.  I know a former NFL Head Coach who is currently an offensive analyst at a P5.  There will be plenty of candidates walking the halls at the Coaching Convention:  https://convention.afca.com/

Often times coaches take analyst jobs after being fired as a head coach, because many of their buyout clauses state that if the coach takes another job before the term of their previous contract expires then the firing school or NFL team will offset the buyout equal to the amount the coach earns.  To say it differently, they can't double dip.

So what they do is take jobs as analysts for the minimum salary they can get away with usually 30,000 per year.

That's what Butch Jones did he was fired, had buyout payments coming, went to work for Alabama for 30k annually and built back his reputation because he was hitched to a winner and then suckered Arkansas State to hire him.

If you think a coach that made say 600k to a 1.5 million would step down to a G5 and work for 200k, you're crazy.  Unless they had no other option to work.

Would you be content, relocating your family, working 80 hours a week, risking your reputation for a 1/3 of your current salary?   Why would you expect anyone else to do so?  Unless they have no other options and do we want a coach that has no other options.  In other words, we are their only option.
