  • Good post, 24.  I'll add that we have two attending MU right now as a FR and JR.  They get my NIL $$$.  We contribute to the BG, but I'll not be contributing more $$ to someone else's kid to play a college sport, at least while mine are in college themselves.

Found this interesting.  Maybe reorganizing?  Or maybe a sign of things to come across the G5 landscape.......https://www.wbtw.com/news/grand-strand/conway/coastal-carolina-nil-collective-for-football-stops/
Yeah. And when that reorganizing happens, essentially making us completely irrelevant, I'll stop watching completely. At least we have a dream shot of making the playoffs now, once that's gone, I'm all out. I don't want to be officially anyway, taking a step back into 1-AA

  • I recall last year when LSU women's b'ball star Angel Reese was asked about turning pro she said she makes more money at LSU that she would in the WNBA.

  • In my opinion, the portal is a good place to pick up players in a weak position area but not to build a team around.  Recruiting for four years is the best way to build a team.

  • Build no team momentum depending heavily on the portal.  It can also be a difference maker like last year with Laborn.  He was great for MU.

  • I?ll give my take on NIL, which many will no doubt think is naive.

I would never spend a dollar on a portal player. Any funds spent would go towards proven underclassmen and roster players the staff believes show a high potential level. My reasons:

We simply can?t afford to buy sure fire talent from the portal. If there?s a QB that?s a sure bet to throw for 3,000 with 25TDs and 5INTs, we will not be the best offer. Same for a D-lineman that can get you 8-9 sacks or a lockdown corner.

Next, buying 1-2 year talent puts you in a loop of always having to buy players because your HS recruit players are always getting bumped back for reps so they don?t develop. You end up either paying $100,000 to educate them while they sit on a bench or they leave after you spend $60,000 to have them sit on a bench.

Third, lack of the team cohesion you need to be successful. You saw it in the first half of the season, all the blown assignments were because you were playing a group of guys who weren?t used to the system or their teammates. As they played together more those mistakes started going away. Living off the portal means this will be an every year problem.

So recruit HS kids, try to take care of them and keep them here 4 years. If they have a chance to cash in big there last year wish them well and move on to the next guy.

I think this is how we can compete for conference titles

That's why I've been beating the drum for a proven FCS head coach who is strong on O and D for our next coach

It's not a guarantee if we go this route, but I think it gives us a better chance of landing a winner

    Go Herd!

  • There are already several millionaires competing in college. One is a gymnast. Bronny James is over 6 million. Crazy
