  • I was at the game and with 3:02 to play we were down 18.  I turned to my friend and said that we could still win the game.  He thought I was crazy.  If Conner could have hit the three-pointer he shot with 13 seconds left we would have been down one point and it's anyone's game.  I've read all the comments but I've not seen any props to the players who did not quit, even though half of the Henderson Center left with 3:02 to play.  Yes, for the most part it was a stinker of a game but some huge credit has to be given to the team for not losing by 25!

There are no positives in this game. This is the game we had to win and one I thought was a sure thing. Other than Bluefield imo we will be the underdog for the next 5-6 games. We are 2-5 with wins over Queens and FIU.

I get what you are saying. But, the "if" game can go two ways. If Miami hit the free throws down the final stretch, it would have been a loss of over 20 points.

maybe if this effort would've been showed vs UK.  but it was Miami OH.  & we still lost at home to a mediocre MAC team.

That we beat by almost 30 away last year.

  • I really just don't see the talent that is going to bring this squad together by conference play. Martin was a good pickup from the portal. He is the only one who will get in there and scrap for offensive rebounds. OAK is back to launching three pointers. Curfman is a liability if he is not hitting the 3's. Voyles is too reckless. Connor just does not impress me much. I'm not even going to go down the bench. I will say like Nutter's aggressiveness. I also liked Pruett's play last night. He was not afraid to shoot and looked good doing it. All these guys seem to be well behaved, nice guys. No problems off campus and they hit the books. But, this coaching staff has to find players that can be like this and also play basketball. They are out there. The effort needs to be made by the coaching staff to do so. I just don't think that is going to happen.

  • You have to play 40 minutes not just 5.

  • My take is a little different. I thought we played hard, shot selection was ok, played together, and rebounding looked improved. Was not a sloppy chuckfest. Difference is Miami made shots and we didn't. Miami made about 50% of 3 pt shots. So the why is pretty obvious. We rely too heavily on our own 3 pt shooting despite always seemingly being toward bottom of D1. Secondly, we don't have the agility/quickness to stop penetration, provide consistent help defense, or get out to shooters. Those are recruiting issues 100%. I'd think we'd have better luck with a Syracuse like match up zone with our length, but this team is going to struggle to guard because we don't have the personnel to do so. On offense we don't have good shooters or guys who create shots on their own.

The HC is looking for answers in lineup changes and can certainly get a spark with some guys on bench but he shouldn't be blaming players since he recruited them all. He needs three Curfman's because nobody else can shoot 3's and when he is off there is nobody else most nights. He recruited guys with height but lacking in quickness and ability to score consistently. He needs three Martin's who can rebound and finish inside, but when he gets into foul issues or fatigued, there is nobody else most nights. Failure to bring in enough guys that fit your system is a recipe for mediocrity or worse. Calling our schedule too tough is among the most laughable statements. Many of our players would be good in our system with certain roles but as a collection the talent is lacking. Don't blame them, look in mirror.

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

Very good post and why I've been screaming to not waste a third of your scholarships on bench warmers and allow them to sit. Shooters like you said is the big issue. But even more of the issue is we have ZERO creators for others and nobody that can create their own shot. Those 2 things alone should get Danny dismissed for not seeing this as the head coach from day one when the fanbase could. Danny's problem is not that he can't recruit but he has no idea about who to recruit or an eye for talent. When you pass on guys like Holden and take Goran instead there is a problem. And there have been more than that.
