  • 1. Georgia State head football coach is leaving and taking an assistant's football coaching job at South Carolina. I thought that might interest the "I dislike Huff crowd".

2.Ohio State fired head basketball coach Chris Holtmann. Apparently he couldn't get OSU passed the second round of The Big Dance. He had a great record at Butler before going to OSU where he was 137-85. What are your thoughts of hiring him to replace Dan?

Holtmann came from Butler, and the guy he replaced at OSU, Thad Motta, is now at Butler.

  • For football, it seems that if we need to make a change after next season, it looks like we would have to hire a coach from a lower division, or a retread who has once been a head coach at the D1 level.

  • There's a pretty good D-1 coach just 70 miles down the road.

I just watched the post game Appy video. Dan looks like he is giving up in the video; so hopefully we might be looking for a new coach sooner than 2 years?

Edit: I watched the rest of the video and Dan is asking for a big crowd for a home game on ESPN to help with recruiting. MU needs to grow a pair and show Dan the door.

We should reward DD's coaching with empty seats for the ESPN game.  DD asking fans to help support his recruiting is like a pan handler asking for stock market tips.  You know the beggar doesn't have the resources to implement any tips and DD doesn't have skill to recruit or to utilize their skills.

It's over Dan, walk away before you tarnish your reputation even further.

  • I usually don't believe in a boycott but I do believe it is necessary for the ESPN game.  Based on Dans comments and recruiting, a big crowd will only let him say the fan base is still behind him.

We cannot allow him to be our coach next year.  Look what a coach like Caldwell or Grassie can do at MU.  We need the same winning attitude for mens basketball.

  • Please don't make us look worse than we do.  Do not boycott Marshall games.  Marshall has a reputation for putting butts in the seats which is a good thing don't make it bad.

We aren't going to make Marshall look as bad as DD is doing.  Much better to have a massive dramatic drop off than the inevitable drip drip drip drop off that is already starting.

Much better to have commentators talking about the sudden lack of support from the usually supportive Marshall fan base, than to be talking about how it was three years ago.

Agree. This (and donations) is the power we as fans hold. Sends a clear message that A) we want a change: B) this is what the entirety of next year will look like if that change isn't made.

just having a little fun-  it's still a possibility to get an assistant from an 'alabama type team' who simply wants to be an HC.   just ask around

  • On the original question about Holtmann, I'd be interested in talking to him as part of a pool of candidates for the job.  He was able to get Gardner-Webb's program moving in the right direction culminating in their first D1 postseason appearance in his final season there.  He had good success at Butler.  He's from Lexington, and has had coaching jobs in North Carolina and Ohio. So, he should have familiarity with areas we should be recruiting.  I look at a guy like John Groce and think Holtmann could be a comp.  Had good success at lower levels, didn't cut it in the Big 10, and has moved back to Akron and is heading up one of the top programs in the MAC.
